I asked for some advice last week about what type of gun to get the wife and i had her handle and try most of the ones suggested. She ended up going for the Taurus 605 3" stainless in 357 (although she feels more comfortable shooting 38).

We got it from a local gun shop that i have bought from before. We ended up getting it for $350 brand new. (is this a good deal? i thought it was reasonable). She wants a nice set of cocobolo grips and then it will be the perfect weapon for her. She feels safer at nights when im at work now.

Thanks for all the help.

Buy some snap caps and have her practice dry firing. It's the best way to learn double action trigger control and avoid flinching.

I'm glad she decided on a .357 Magnum. As for ammo, I would suggest loading it with 158gr LSWC/HP .38 Special +P ammo, the "FBI Load". From a 3" barrel it will be very effective if your wife ever needs to use that revolver in SD. Also, she will avoid the "flash-bang" effect of a .357 Magnum being shot in a dark enclosed area like a bedroom or hallway at night. My revolvers are all loaded with the FBI Load and I feel it's the perfect ammo for HD in a revolver.

BTW, Remington, Federal and Winchester all still have the FBI Load in their ammo line as well as some of the high end ammo makers like Buffalo Bore. (high end = more expensive)

will spent casings work as well?

You can punch out the primers and put pencil eraser in there for some home-made snap caps.

However most modern centerfire guns are perfectly OK to dry fire.

my wife was looking at one of them on the Taurus web site she works late to and in a collage town. Hope your wife likes hers hope to get one for mine soon

That is a very fair price for my area. Not a raging deal, but a price I would have felt good about paying if in your shoes.

When you get the new stocks on it, please try to post some pics! I'm a sucker for 3" barrel revolvers, even though I don't have one yet.
