So - went to a shop yesterday, long story short - couldn't buy a gun - because my ID has my PO Box on it. They need government issued proof of physical address. Guy tells me to go to the DMV, and get the form that verifies your physical address.
So - today, i do exactly that. Go to the DMV, ask them about this form. They said they don't have a form like that, and had no idea what I was talking about. They said I could have my physical address put on my license, but the only way to do that - was if i made my physical address my mailing address. In which case, anything they sent me in the mail would get returned (although that may or may not be a bad thing!).
The woman at the desk asked me flat out "this is for a gun isn't it?" I was like "yes, it is". She tells me they've been having problems since NV changed their policy. For identity theft/security reasons, they do not give out physical addresses whenever possible. They only print mailing addresses. She said this has become a problem, since NV requires physical address for background checks. She sounded pretty frustrated about it herself.

Well, I go on the NV DMV site - poke around a little bit, and what's this? I can print out the damn form from the website! No real verification even needed to get the information! So - you go in person, prove your identity, and ask for confirmation of your own information, and they can't give it to you. Go on the website - and just about any Joe Schmoe off the street can pull it up for $7.

Yea - clearly they're worried about security. :banghead:

What makes matters even more ridiculous - is NV's Point of Contact is the NHP (nevada highway patrol - state police). All the NICS checks go through them. They have the physical address, and would be able to confirm it's valid. There seems to be little reason I can think of - why I couldn't state my physical address, prove my mailing address - and NHP could confirm that my stated physical is in fact correct. They get their information from the same DMV database that I got my printout from. Tax dollars hard at work. Clearly somebody really thought this one through.

Easy Solution

Go to you local walmart and buy a hunting and fishing license for $5.00. It lists your address on it ( take a bill or something with you that has your address on it just in case) and is considered a via state issued ID in conjunction with a drivers license.
