GP100 327 Mag?

I have a 4.2" barrel GP100 chambered in 327 Fed mag. It is a nice revolver. New, I paid just south of $800 several years ago for one.

Stocks can always be changed.

Go for it.

I would jump all over that. The LCRs are pretty small for the .327 but it would shine in a GP100. That is an awesome gun.

Are those seven shot? I found one for sale on Gunbroker but the seller forgot to show a picture of the open cylinder.

For me, 40 oz is too heavy for all day carry, and I wouldn't want to shoot full .327 loads indoors.

But one would not have to do either.

"Need it"? No, I don't, but I would need to exercise some will-power to not buy it.

Got a line on a 4 inch half lug GP100 in 327 mag. It's the blued version with ugly Hogue grips.
What do you folks think? Do I need it? (Of course I want it).
Price is between 5-6 bills.
Oh good, another grip thread. That gun is the last one on my wish list.

Buy it.! What grips are on it?? (not that it matters)

Hope you reload as 327 Fed is not cheap!

I was pining for a 5” half lug GP in .327 a while ago. I waited too long and now they are much rarer and pricier than they were :(.

That 4” half-lug GP is a gun that I would buy today if I came across one around 500 bucks. If you pass, on it, PM me the info and I’ll look into it. :)

Stay safe.

I have a lot of interest in 327 but I don't reload. You really cannot even find it online easily at the moment but if you can behold the prices. Pre-COVID this would be what the page looks like for 340 Weatherby or maybe 35 Whelen.

On a side note I have a 5" 10mm with the half-lug. It really is the best config for a GP100. The wood grips on the 5" GP-100 appeared to have been trash on all of them. I had to dump mine and put some rubber Hogue's on it.

Sounds like I probably should jump on it?
Problem is I did a quick search for brass and nada. None.
Anyone know where to look for 327, 32 H&R, or 32 long brass?

The joy of .327 is the ability to shoot .32 H&R Magnum and there are a few good defense loads out there from Hornady and the boutique companies.

That said, I think .327 in the GP100 is like putting breast implants on a fat girl. It's not like the capacity goes up to 8 rounds, so what is gained going down in caliber with a 40oz gun and not getting an extra round in the cylinder?

To me, 327 Federal in a GP100 is a way to shoot full power in a double action. That is not something I want to do in my SP101. To me, it would be silly to want the gun just to shoot one of the less powerful cartridges in that caliber. The SP101 works great for that.

Why have a 357 mag and only shoot 38 special in it? 10mm and shoot 40 SW?

Shootability.

My gun came in .357. I would never shoot one indoors.
But what size 357 is it? The larger guns may not be selected as a regular carry gun. Smaller guns in 357 are just trying to be versatile, typically fed 38 Special, but are way smaller than the original, better suited S&W N-frames.

I would not shoot any handgun indoors with .357 Magnum loads.
But who actually carries one "indoors", loaded with 357 in a stout load? One can at least load subsonic and then at moderate pressure levels. There is 357 extreme ammo, and then there is 357 light to moderate ammo, and yes, for self defense.

I don't carry it but my nightstand gun is a 2.5" 357 Magnum I keep loaded with 158gr JHP from Black Hills or Hydrashoks. Probably won't be worse than when I touch off the 18.5" Remington 870 with 9 pellet 00 I keep in the corner.
