My 327 Federal GP100 came with the Hogue monogrip, and although it was a home/range gun I found it servicable but not great. After my first couple attempts to carry it, I realized it needed to go. After looking around a bit and not really being a fan of solid wood on stainless guns, I decided to go with Altamont's version of the original stock grips. The snakeskin rubber grip with snakeskin checkered inserts in silver black laminate seemed like a good idea and it is hard to beat the price.
Grips arrived and were installed today, and what a difference. In addition to looking a million times better, the feel and balance are great. I am pretty amazed at how much more natural the gun points without the finger grooves and hump. I love Hogue...but on the Ruger they missed the mark. If shooting with the Altamonts is aa improved as I suspect I will be very pleased indeed. My only "complaint" is that the agressive checkering of the scale pattern means the grain in the darker laminate is hard to see, but in this case it seems to work well with the two tone color scheme.
Yeah..sorry about the upside down picture...
