A few months ago I took a buddy of mine to his first ever gun show in Corpus Christi. I was basically going just for a look see for somebody who might be unloading Black Powder guns etc. but as it turns out he picked up his very first handgun an ATI 1911 Compact. Of course we then had to run down the road to a local indoor range so he could feed it as it looked extremely hungry when he bought it. I ran a magazine through it and I must say I was duly impressed for an inexpensive 1911. Then the problems started...
I kept having thoughts of how much easier it would be to carry a Compact vs. a Government Model. One thing led to another and the next thing I knew I found myself on GunBroker putting watches on Compact 1911's. After checking my PayPal account and finding that I'd stashed a few hundred bucks in there from some eBay sales then looking in my wallet and finding some poor old worn out pictures of Ben Franklin things got worse. By the time we left for home at the end of April I pretty much knew that another S&W 1911 was going to have to be added to the mix.
Last week I was once again sneaking onto the computer to have a look at GB when a particular S&W Pro Series 1911 was about to end its auction with no bidders, I just couldn't have that. How disappointing it must be for somebody to list a pretty little gun like that and never even get a bid so feeling sorry for the seller I bid on their gun. $939 and four days later look what showed up...
Not to worry about this poor little Compact being lonely though, it's big brother will watch over it.
On Saturday the wife and I went out and ran some rounds through the Compact and her 38 wheel gun. Although she has no use for the Government Model she actually liked shooting the Compact.
