Mike McNett, (the CEO of Double Tap Ammunition) is going to be announcing 5 new loads for the .45 Colt cartridge. There will be heavy loads that will NOT batter the "light duty" Colt & S&W revolvers to pieces, while arranging for them to shoot heavy bullets at substantial velocities for hunting purposes. I believe that thhree will permit the Rugers and Thompson Contenders (as well as other substantial revolvers) to produce either equal, or more, "punch" than Cor-Bon, Buffalo Bore, et al.

Mike McNett has done it again!

Once upon a time, I had a Taurus in .45 Colt. I traded it off because I felt it might be a little fragile, (though I never had any actual problems).j

If they will hold up with loads like these, I might consider another.

Then again, I am really happy with my 696.:)

Go to www.doubletapammo.com and see his lineup. You can also call Mike McNett @ 1-866 357-1066 and speak to him yourself.

I got this from the "horses mouth". Check it out. You're on your own.

Maybe I'n not looking hard enough, but I couldn't find any reference to .45 Colt on that site. The only revolver cartridges I see are .44mag and .357mag.

Very few decent .45 Colt factory loads out there. The +Ps a bit much for a lot of people and most others wimpy at best and I don't mean just cowboy loads. Guess it's a liability thing because of all of the older guns still in use. My .45 is a Ruger that will handle the heavier loads but I don't understand why the Ammo companies can't produce a 250 gr load at about a true 900 fps from a 5" barrel that would be OK not only in Rugers but in S&Ws and most of the older Colts and at least fairly pleasant to shoot.

For those who like their 45 colt in +P, PMC ammo Co. has a 45+P load, 300gr Hornady SP bullet that scoots at around 1200 FPS and is stouter than most 44mags. You can get it at Natchezz cheaper than most regular 45 colt. Or if your like me you just stick to the full power 454 casull loads.
