Long story short my wife was hurt at work Sunday. She was knocked out for a short time and was transported by the Bartlett Fire Dept. to St Francis hospital in Bartlett. She informed the FD crew of her permit and that she was armed. It was a non-issue to them and the informed her that they would take care of it at the hospital. Now at the hospital there are ghost buster signs but no legal ones. Once at the hospital she was told by hospital staff it was ok to keep it on her person and if they did need to do any test that would effect her the would hold the gun in their safe until I could pick it up for her. I just want express my thanks to the Bartlett FD and to St Francis for using common sense and making this a great encounter.

From Tennessee and proud of it.

No I have not because I do not want to get anyone in trouble. The Firemen and hospital staff were wonderfull but I do not know what the official pollicy is and as such I do not want to rock the boat. It is kind of like not telling a business their no guns signs is not worded legally. I they followed the book, wonderfull. If they acted on their own using common scense, wonderfull.

Yeah, I suspose so.... too bad though, it would be nice to be able to recognize these people for their common sense approach to things.

You could write letter expressing your thanks that they did a wonderful job taking care of your wife. You don't HAVE to mention the gun.

You know, it might be good positive reinforcement to send a Thank You note (or better, some fudge / cookies) to at least some of the people involved. No need to mention the gun-aspect; if the WHOLE SITUATION went as well as it could have / should have considering her injury, then THE COMPONENTS of the situation were also good. "Thanks for acting professionally and quickly" -- that sort of stuff :)

They might not think "Hey! Sure glad we treated that lady's CCW permit as no big deal!" but rather (by intent) "That was considerate -- we acted appropriately, and he was courteous to recognize it." Background thought: "Gun owners are not all necessarily rude, violent dunderheads." Not that they'd think that -- certainly many EMS types are outdoor adventurers.

Send a letter thanking them for their "professionalism". Hopefully the ones involved will get your meaning between the lines.

I have to tell you, living in Bartlett, the Bartlett Police are very nice too atleast the ones I have encountered. Anytime I have been in a situation that involved Bartlett police I would hand him my carry permit and let him know I am carrying, and they usually say thank you and not another word ever said about it.
