so i roll out of bed today, itching to try some new 22-250 reloads i cooked up and my first ever 9mm reloads. as we unpack the rifle we end up on the bench next to an extremely nice benchrest shooter who is also testing out some of his new wildcats. after i oogle his stuff for a while he proudly lets me give it the once over and dry fire it (our ammo supply had been depleted by this point) never before in my life had i had a chance to play with something as neat as a 2 ounce trigger and a fixed 45 power weaver! man that was a cool set up! :D so after trading a bit of load data, we parted ways and headed over to the pistol range (200 yards down from the rifle range). already set up are some guys doing iron 22's, (not sure what they are called but they are the fancy target models) and we get to shooting the poo with these guys and i tell them that im brand new to handgun reloading and these are my first pistol loads. Well that seemed to be the magic phrase cause these two guys just went nuts! immediately they put down their rifles and got out a HK P7 with a chrono and their lastest gold dot reproduction load.

having never seen a p7 in real life let alone hold one, i was amazed. the things are great! so anyway he's zippin through his reloads and checking the chrono data, im plugging him with questions and then he asks me if i'd like to shoot his p7! man those squeeze cocker'd things are sweet! very smooth and very snappy.

again i trade some load data with the guy and part our ways. on the trip home i was just amazed at how everyone i met that day not only happened to be a reloader , but how friendly and what great advice they were willing to share.

man this is a great sport

Even a bad day at the range is usually a good experience, but there's nothing better than a genuinely positive day. Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself so thoroughly.

Someday I'll try out one of those P7s myself. They just look so cool!

(apart from crusty old farts like sm, P95carry and yours truly! )
Bwhahahaha - hey I AM the old one in this triumvirate, regretably. :p The other two are simply up and coming curmudgeons!

Hey Chicken thx for the back-up ma fren :D. Whilst in essence a ''juvenile'' still - I have to confess that 60 does these days feel old - for the old bod' anyways. :uhoh:

Sounds like a great range visit - have to say. Those trips can be memorable, informative and even create new friendships. On balance (''triumvirate'' excluded LOL ) - the vast majority of shooters are good guys, willing to share experience and info - and mostly too, keen to see newer shooters succeed and get on. Glad it was such a positive experience :)
