Greek women guerrillas and their guns

What was the traditional method of execution Franco first wanted to use?

When I was there in ‘70, first thing you saw at the airport coming in was soldiers still wearing Spanish Civil War German gifts, WWII German helmets and slung MP-38’s.

I felt like I was in an episode of “Mission Impossible“.

Saw an illustration of that "traditional method" ... It involved a post set in the ground with a spike sticking out of it.... The person to be executed was lined up so the spike was at the back of their neck and then the rope went around the post and the target and was wound tight from the rear so that they were both strangled and impaled by the spike -at the same time... .Those old spaniards, hundreds of years ago were some cruel dudes... When they came to the new world - they brought that cruelty with them as well. Native americans who first welcomed them with open arms soon learned to kill them whenever an opportunity arose...

My father was one of the first observers of the Greek civil war. This was the first actions taken by the newly (1945) formed UN. He had been a liaison pilot with the Army Air Corp during WW2. I have all of his ID papers and other documents from this conflict. He spoke very little about this or WW2. He would answer direct questions but never volunteered anything. As a kid I found many photos he took documenting the atrocities. He was not happy with this but acknowledged the horrors he witnessed as an observer. He married my mother during this time frame. She is still alive at 92. She lived through the Nazi occupation and the civil war while living in Thessaloniki. Most people are unaware of the occupation of Greece and its civil war following WW2. History should be the best teacher but it seems we learn nothing from it. Best wishes
