Anyone ever get such a notice from the ATF. I’m a C+R license holder in Illinois and occasionally get Form up dates and stolen gun reports. The State Police run the FOID and CCL programs so the two working together is to be expected. Anyone been to such a gathering and what can you offer about the experience.

ATF FFL Seminar- Naperville City Hall
  • Feb 23 at 11:48 AM

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Illinois State Police are holding an FFL seminar at Naperville City Hall (400 S Eagle Street, Naperville, IL) on March 17, 2022 from 12pm-4pm. E-mail your RSVP to [email protected] by March 9th. Contact the Downers Grove Field Office at 630-725-5290 with any questions. In your response, please include: The name on your ATF license and How many persons will be in attendance. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Another example of a meeting where citizens may show if allowed in, and given the opportunity, will stand up and start talking about nothing and waste everyone's time.

Although a Q and A may follow the seminar, people will stand up and yack, hence the question from the moderator: "sir, was there a question in there somewhere?"

I would take advantage of the opportunity to know the players, to have my questions answered, and to hear answers to other people's questions. Yes, some people may waste a bit of your time, but getting a feel for the regulators and what they are focusing on is, in my estimation, a worthwhile opportunity. You will likely receive reference materials and contact information that may prove useful.

Chances are good they will work from a slideshow, and if you share the link, we can all learn more.

Edited to add that the request for RSVP coupled with a noon starting time sure sounds like lunch is on them. I doubt that it will be anything fancy!

I’ve received notices when an FFL has suffered a break in resulting in stolen guns. I guess for privacy they don’t say who it was.
Same here. I have a C&R license and I have gotten two such notices in the last year. I have not gotten any notices about a "seminar."

The way I look at these types of things is that even though it may be a real beat down, if I can just walk away with 1 or 2 pearls I’m good.

I got notice about the E-forms update, and I regularly get notifications about local gun dealer robberies. For the first time in a long time I've seen a local news story about Federal Firearms Law prosecution of a previously convicted felon -- seems it took him using an illegally converted Glock "machine pistol". Apparently a Glock 17 with a 3D printed "switch" and a 50 round drum, wounded three HPD officers. I only have a C&R.

An old adage in warfare is "Keep track of what the enemy is doing". Since BATFE is an established entity of the U. S. Federal Government, I hesitate to label the agency an 'enemy', but at times there is a conflict of purpose or seeming conflict of purpose between our unofficial fraternity and the official agency. Knowing what is happening is always a good idea.

C&R license holders could find out who the local agency representatives are, get a feel for their priorities and enforcement history, and learn of recent mandates or policy changes that may affect them. Their attendance might also signal that they want to be informed of and comply with legitimate requirements, rather than operating without regard to such requirements.

It should not be necessary for attendees to supply information not on file, or do anything beyond enjoying a lunch at their own expense (paid for by taxes that they and others have paid) and learning about matters that may affect them more than they realize. May even make new friends or find out how to get questions answered when they do come up.

Would selling guns and ammo out of your trunk in the parking lot be a no no? lol

I have a feeling that might be looked down upon, but if it's not a C+R item in your book, and legal in your state, I guess it would be okay.

I'm not a gun dealer - nor ever likely to be one... The few dealers I've had contact with were straight forward and knew their business, thank you... If I were invited to this kind of seminar I'd keep reminding myself to keep my ears open - and my mouth shut... Having been a good bureaucrat myself some years ago my expectations would be low - but I'm always willing to be pleasantly surprised. Must admit though that if my first meeting were a zero - or less than zero - I wouldn't be attending a second one. Spent entirely too much time in absolutely useless meetings in law enforcement that I was ordered to attend - all those years ago...

Some LE agencies used to bring in people with warrants by telling them they won a prize, and come to such and such a place to collect it.

Wonder if they're trying to bring in some shady FFL's? lol
They know where to find FFLs.

Looks like you should email Mr. Kavanaugh and ask if it is just 01 FFL information or is there anything for C&R holders...and if they're serving lunch. ;)

The only information I get, on a infrequent basis, from the ATF is in relation to title 1, 2 and SOT and Occasionally a dealer theft alert. Never have anything to do with that area. For informations sake never received anything relating to C+R FFLs.in over 10 years Ive had the license.
