Anybody know which, if any, of Rugers Single Action Revolvers would have a grip frame that that would fit the Old Army. Ran across one web site that listed the part (grip frames) but can't seem to find it again. Any after market.

Vaquero gripframes fit, but you have to modify them for the little plunger that is behind the ROA trigger.

I have a couple of old aluminum ones--lightens up the ROA noticably

"The MR3-BD is the 1860 Army style grip frame, rare and sought after, the grip frames alone fetch over $400.":what:

I just bought a ROA for less than that, granted it is not "NIB" and has been around the horn, but it is clean, no rust, locks up tight and shoots good. The grip frame is alloy, painted (?) black. Thought I'd pick up a blued steel one, guess again.:D

I'll spend the money on something that will shoot.

Power Custom makes them...Colt or Keith no5. Stainless or blue. Super high quality and run about $200.00. They work with all 3-screw Rugers.

I think you mean the trigger is alloy or aluminum? 1985 was the switch over to steel trigger guards. The grip frames were brass, stainless or steel if memory serves.

OK marked as XRN-3 Red. Small 4 under RED. Assumed as it was non magnetic that it was an alloy which it is just stainless ? Ser# 140-xxxxx. Adjustable sights, steel trigger with no trigger plunger in the guard. So there is no point in my changing it out. It does appear to be painted, perhaps powder coated. Not brass.
My stainless is Ser# 145-xxxx, has the warning on the barrel, and has a trigger plunger in the guard. No numbers on the grip frame, at least not under the grips. The grip panels are interchangeable. (Between the two guns)

Were I younger and had more cash would have them worked as I see some here. But I am not either so am just going to see if I can wear them out before I croak and the wife lets some "collector" steal them.:neener:

On and ROA the trigger guard is part of the grip frame and the early ones that were not brass were powder coated Aluminum.

The worst part was/ is that the chipped powder coating on the grip frame made them look bad quickly with the aluminum showing through.

I've seen several with the powder coating completely removed and the aluminum polished up. The polished aluminum "Bling" looks better than the beat up and battered partly powder coated aluminum does.

There we go, knew that sucker was something other. On mine it is not bad just a chip or two on the bottom. It is a dull finish so looks cheap.
