Older handguns with gutta percha (hard rubber) grips are often found with chips or nicks out of the grips, and repro grips are not available for many guns. So, for what it is worth, and I guarantee nothing.

I have been experimenting with grip repairs, and have found that Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant, sold in auto stores, does a pretty good job of patching up those grips. It can't be checkered, so use is confined to smooth edges, but still it is better than nothing. It adheres well to the original material, and can be smoothed out with the finger when applied so it is shiny like the original. By covering the metal part of the grip with tape right up to the edge, the sealant can be blended into the metal, with any extra trimmed off with a knife or scissors after the material sets.
