I was looking at the Springfield Armory website real quick... And to my surprise, the stock photos of the Mod 2 XD and XDS no longer have the tacky "Grip Zone" plastered on them.

Now, if you click on the image, you can still find older original photos that have "Grip Zone". This makes me think that maybe SA is dropping the words and haven't fully updated their website.

Maybe... Maybe not.

I'm sure people still hate them anyways. Regardless, the Grip Zone jokes will live on for years, I'm sure...

I love my little XDS 40 and also liked my previous generation XD full-size and compact pistols.

However, when I was looking at new carry pistols, I purposely avoided the Springfield Armory models with that ridiculous and embarrassing "Grip Zone" nonsense on them.

They may have very well been the perfect size and capacity and been a great pistol, but that lettering was completely idiotic. I'm sure it has cost them a lot of sales.

Do you find "Grip Zone" more offensive than "Perfection"? I find it laughable what some people will find to object to. Remember, not so many year ago rough and tough guys were carrying pistols emblazoned with "Lady Smith" on the slide. Just sayin'.

Is PERFECTION emblazoned on the side of the gun?

No? Then your point is nonsensical. It is completely reasonable that people find large cheesy lettering embossed on the side of a pistol unattractive and detracting from the aesthetics of a weapon.

In fact, I find your inability to grasp that concept, quite laughable.

One of the reasons I like glock aesthetics is that there's none of that nonsense permanently emblazoned on.

I wouldn't buy one. Unless they add some more labels like "insert mag here" and "pointy things exit here" and "designated thumb breaker area."

I don't really pay a lot of attention to the plastic service-pistol-and-compact-variant-of-same market, so the inclusion of that labeling had escaped my attention. I assume that everyone gave Springfield appropriate s*** about the fact that they stamped "grip zone" on a section of the grip with no texture - i.e., the part that is least grippy? And also the location where a shooter is most dependent upon friction for recoil control???

If I had known of this, Springfield would have been taunted and booed until my throat was sore.

Meh, I have a “Grip Zone” mod 2. If it really bothered me, I’d find someone (or DIY) stipple the grip to cover it up.

But I think it’s a good idea to lose it for SA, as id prefer it not be there.

Funny how many men are bothered by words on a tool and self defense gun. "Grip Zone" is the trademarked title/name of the XD 2.0 grip. It's not instructions where to put your hands. Everyone darn well knows this, yet they keep repeating the narrative that it is. Furthermore, the gun will be concealed while your carrying it, covered by your hand while shooting, or in the safe or stored when not in uses. Not like it's going to be entered into a beauty contest, what does it matter? Seems like a silly insufficient thing for grown men to be so worked up over... I really think it was just another excuse for fanboys of other plateforms to put down XDs...

I care about how a gun shoots, is it accurate, does it fit my hand, does the manufacturer have good CS and QA, etc. I couldn't care any less about things that do NOT really matter even a macro bit when it comes to the tool's intended purpose.

The funny part isn't calling it "grip zone." The funny part is making he "grip zone" smooth plastic.

So what??? Does the trademark require that they mold it into the frame? No.

Does Glock put SAFE-ACTION TRIGGER(R)(TM)(C)2019 on all their pistols???

Yea, so what? It's really not a big deal. It's a self defense tool. It's going to get holster wear and scratches. It's not going to stop you from doing what the tool is designed to do. It has absolutely zero affect on whether you can defend your life or not.

Doesn't matter what Glock does, and if they did put "Safe Action" on the trigger, that wouldn't stop Glock from being one of the best handguns on the market. It would not stop them from being easy to work on. It wouldn't stop them from being reliable. It wouldn't stop them from having great aftermarket support... I'm not a fan of Glocks, but if someone who otherwise loved Glocks and all the benifits that come with owning them were to discount them because of writing that no one would really see, then I'd think that was silly to... In the grand scheme of things, it's just not a big deal, or at least IMHO, it shouldn't be.

We live in an ugly world and the least we need are ugly and tacky guns to go with it.

P.S. "Lady Smith" can stay because it's actually pretty neat to have it inscribed on you gun. And I still miss that wonderful pre-lock S&W 36 LS which I didn't buy from pure stupidity (not because of the inscription)...

Why would they put it anywhere else? The entire grip of the pistol is the Grip Zone design. According to their description, they strategically put the texture in what they believed to be the most important places. Grip Zone is one unit. One design/pattern that imcludes the texture and nontextured areas.

Fixed your post.
Obviously for branding purposes. I get that it was a bad idea on their part. They probably never expected people to push the narrative that it was instructions, or make a huge deal out of it. I can see how some could prefer it's not there as well; however, IMHO, many are making mountain out of an ant hill over it.

Ruger tells you to read the manual on most of their firearms and most don't like it and prefer it not be there, but at least people aren't going as overboard over it as they are about the Mod 2. You'd think more people would be outraged and fussing over accually being told to read the manual via etching on the slide vs a company putting their trademark branding on the grip.

Yep

Is anyone actually doing that?

It’s just some light ribbing towards the company.

Also an F-up. But at least it’s a CYA thing and serves a purpose.
