looking at replacing the stock grips on both SP101 and GP100 with wood grips. Has anyone had either good or bad experiences with fit and quality of grips from Hogue or Eagle?

they make a S&W style wraparound grip (eagle) that I have. Its very comfortable, and a big improvement over the rubber/wood grip, and a much bigger improvement over the current monstrosity they use for the GP. Very confortable with full 357 as well. It comes with a light oil finish, so its porous. Its fit is not perfect, due to the GP's frame variables, and really needs a pin to keep the pieces aligned when installed, otherwise they slip. I made a pin, and used wood dough to fix this. They are fairly fragile, since ruger did not leave a lot of room, but not wimpy. overall i like them. cant say about the hogue.

Reasons? I've been considering Eagle Grips for my SP101, but have yet to purchase.
Set i had made for my SBH cracked sent it back to them they replaced same thing
Cracked on my 3rd range trip then I got a set from Altamon going on 3 years now
No issues at all also have Eagle grips on a 92 fs these are nice a little thick
but they look and feel good

My recent buy from Altamont pushes me that way too. Incredible product for the price. The grips I got from Eagle a few years ago fit like crap, cant even remember what they were for but I remember the pinching and subseQuent flinching

The wood Hogue's are terribly shaped. It's wrong everywhere and that pronounced palm swell is the worst part. I'm still working on a flinch I developed while shooting my .480 SRH with them back in 2014. The best off the shelf grips for these guns are the factory/Altamont grips with the inserts.

That said, I'm trying to talk Rob Rowen into making me a set for the .480 that resemble the Herrett's Roper or S&W Coke bottles.

Thanks to all. I'll look into Altamont and post pic's of whatever I decide on.

I like the Hogue woodies on my SP101.

The Eagle Secret Service grips didn't fit as well as I'd like and the grip angle changes my instinctive point of aim slightly. I plan on putting them up for sale.

I have had Hogue, Altamont and Eagle. One set of Hogue grips didn't have the area relieved so the slide release leaver could be activated. Fit has been less than perfect too. Altamont has always impressed me. They are my first choice.

I just noticed that I posted the wrong pic with the Hogue wood grip. Here's the current pic:

I've removed most of the palm swell, softened and rounded the butt and softened the trigger guard filler. I finished it with a beeswax rub. The factory high polish is pretty and shows the grain off better but its too slick in the hand for my taste on a carry gun.

Here's a rear view showing the slimmed profile:
