I am thinking about changing the factory wood grips to a set of Hogue Monogrips. My thought is these grips would be more comfortable especially with heavier loads. Also I am hoping they will be of benefit to someone like me with smaller hands.

Does anyone out there have the Hogue grips on their Ruger Redhawk .44? How did they work out?

I had them on my Redhawk for about 9 seconds before i realized i hated their very existance. The Hogues let the gun sit much higher than is comfortable for me, were uncomfortable, and seemed to have more felt recoil than the stock grips IMHO.

I ended up putting Pacmayr Presentation grips and couldnt be happier with them, but they are quite big so im not sure you would like them.

No Redhawk but agree w/ cbmax on the size issue. I have a set of Mono's for my M-66 Smith. THey were too big for my hands. I am medium size guy. I also have the Pmyr Presentations & like them.

Any other suggestions on aftermarket grips?

Goal would be to help with felt recoil on hotter loads, but probably more important to minimize length of trigger pull (or at least not increase it any).

Please share your experiences with other aftermarket grips for the Ruger Redhawk .44 with 5.5 inch barrel.

I am not set on rubber over molds. I was however hoping to avoid true custom one offs that take months and months to receive.

Thanks

I have a 7 1/2" Redhawk in .44 Mag and would not recommend anything but the Hogue rubber! I love them and shoot the gun well with them, it's arguably the most accurate gun I own. The factory stocks suck and Pachmayr's are too hard. The Pachmayr Presentation grips are nice, I have them on a Model 13 S&W but I wouldn't use them for a hunting grip. Your use may be different though. I have medium-large hands, most gloves in large fit, some are too small.

Mine wears

the Pachmeyers it came with (used) but my Bisley Vaquereo, also in .44 mag has the stock wooden ones and is perfectly comfy to shoot.
Good luck.

The fit to frame with Pach's was HORRIBLE. I used them for a few hundred rounds and switched back to the factory grips.

If you look at the threads about the 4 inch Redhawk it looks like it comes with hogues standard. They look a little different to me than the other Hogues I have seen. Maybe see if Ruger sells them, Ruger usually sells factory parts for a reasonable price.

I installed the Hogues on my 7 1/2" Redhawk and have been very happy with them. I have largish hands and they fit me well. The stock grips were prone to shifting in my grip while firing. Now the Redhawk is very controllable.

I have the Hogue grip on my 7 1/2 inch .41 mag Redhawk and I love them. I have smaller hands and they fit me well and boy did they soften the kick for me.

I tried the Hogue Grip on mine and hated it. It had no palm swell at all and they made the grip too deep front to back on the grips. I ended up going back to the original grips for the time being.

I tried a 7.5" RH .44M with Hogues, but didn't like the 'feel' (I diodn't shoot it.). I bought a Pachmayr Decel for $5 at a flea market for my 5.5" SS .45 RH. They are far better - and would be better with 'real' recoil than the OEM wood. Oddly, both my wife and I prefer the OEM wood grips, but my loads are just slightly luke-warm, peaking at a 250gr GDHP or 255gr LSWC at 900+ fps.

I would keep an eye out for the new 4" RH's Hogue grips. Like the S&W .500 Magnum and SRH Alaskan Hogue grips, it pads the backstrap with an absorptive layer, yet doesn't look huge. If they make them available, I'll try a set. The .500 Magnum grip makes a world of difference in the ability of both my 4" and 6" 629's to handle real recoil.

I have a set of Pachmeyers (dont know which model exactly, I dont beleive they say, (and I'm at work, so I cant check, but I will later if someone really wants to know) and they came with the gun (used)).I really like them. The factory grips wern't bad, but I didnt leave them on long as they just weren't nearly as comfortable as the Pachmeyers, and they look pretty good with the satinless too IMHO.
