Guess The Rifle Cartridge

I wish that I could identify many of these cartridges. Many have no headstamp. It is my father-in-law's cartridge collection that I inherited after his passing. Sadly many of the unopened boxes in the first photo received smoke damage from our house fire in 1995. I know that some of these are from the 1800s.

Wow!! That is done collection you were left.

You could post pics and we could help ID the ones you aren’t sure of.

Might take a while, though!

Stay safe.

Yup. Guilty as charged!

I also found five like new .35 Rem rounds with the 150 gr PSP bullet in that box. I believe Ms. Reeder charged me $1.00 each for them, which would be $20 a box if there were a full 20. My JM Marlin 336 LOVES those rounds, single loaded of course.

Stay safe.
Just remember the provenance of the weirdo ammunition in that little box on the counter… estate sales. Almost anybody could have loaded it, or it might be factory, but stored in the attic in Phoenix for the last 75 years. The same could be said of many of the reloading components for sale there. Caveat Emptor.

Yeah, you are right about that.

I usually just do cartridge collection addition buys at places like theirs. These loose .35 Rems were unmarked factory rounds, the bullets and case sides were scuff free, rims unmarked, no discoloration on the case mouths, etc. I bet they were probably unfired leftovers from a box bought at an estate sale or maybe from a broken-open box. (I check pretty closely for reloads!)

Stay safe.
