I can understand the booklet of gun laws, that might actually be useful. The registration form seems to lack tact. What they need to do is compile a small booklet of import guns with their possible 922 compliant parts listed along with how many are required. That at least would be useful.

Then again, that would take away a few charges they could file against Bob Smith when they pick him up for having a "Cache" of ammo for his 22's.

BATFE are just recycled Revenuers, and Grampa Claude would come back to haunt me if I ever went out of my way for a Revenuer.

There may or may not have been some shinin' in my family lineage somewhere in the past. And Steve Earle's "Copperhead Road" may or may not have been as close to a family theme song as was ever written. But either way, you cracked me up pretty good there. It's a little more stinging when the humor's wrapped in truth.

Mixed feelings.

1. I have read some really crappy things about BATFE and their actions.
2. I applaud them on at least attempting to get the word out about gun laws. What their motives are we could debate on and on about.

Thanks to THR I have learned a LOT about gun laws that I didn't know. To be honest the gun laws are easier for an honest and well meaning citizen to accidentally break than follow. Common sense unfortunately is not one of the fomulas that are taking into account in legislation.

I don't start conversations W/ cops because unlike mental health workers & gun owners , a cop can take away my freedom. A cop (especially an ATF COP )isn't just another civil servant, he's an agent of the state who's duty it is to gather evidence of crimes to assist the District Attorney in prosecuting crimes against the state.

For my own protection there is no such thing as a casual conversation W/ somebody who can exercise that much arbitary authority over my life.

Ummm,.....OKAY!

My civics 101 class taught me that cops cannot arbitrarily remove your freedom any more than a doctor can declare you dead, unless you're already in the permanent horizontal position.

Last time I checked, which was a couple days ago, we still had a court system and due process (albeit flawed at times) that kinda prevents cops from creating instant felons.

They had a table at the Syracuse gunshow a couple of weeks ago, handing out gun law books (dated 2005) and ATF stickers. I startled some guys who asked if they could take the law books (table was unattended at the time) when I said "you can take those, but then your name goes on a list."

Everyone chuckled a moment later. Nervously.

I never said one word to the brown shirts, I took the little gun record pamphlet out of my wife's hand, put it back on the table and said " We don't need that". Didn't interact W/ the ATF at all.
