The anti-gun Violence Policy Center is out with another "Study"
highlighting the next threat to public safety... and the next target for
gun banners: Big Boomers," handguns designed to take rifle-caliber
cartridges that can penetrate Kevlar vests.

From the summary:

"Big boomers are rifle power designed into handguns. During the 1990 to
1999 period, 20 law enforcement officers were killed by gunshot wounds
aa\s a result of rounds penetrating their body armor. All of these
rounds were fired from rifles. However, the big boomer handguns that
are now being designed and marketed by the firearms industry have
elevated the power of handguns to the level of rifles. Big boomers have
thus become "vest busters" and present a deadly challenge to law
enforcement body armor's life-saving record."

Read the entire 40-page "report" at:

Typical stuff from them.... "It hasn't ever happened but someday it might, so we should take action now before further lives are not lost"......

Same argument with .50s shooting down the Space Shuttle.

These people are insane.

I think iys funny how the say this was the results of rifles BUT NOW.....

Sounds like bs from an infommercial.

Anti-gun is Anti-freedom.

Dear Sirs -

I are a Baby Boomer.

Guess I'd better mind my P's & Q's, huh?

Those who forget the past, are doomed to repeat it.

Guess they forgot about a certain LA shootout where no one could "penetrate" body armor? They are right though, no legal use for these rounds. :banghead:

I think it's funny how quick the north hollwood thing could have been ended with a CA-banned Barrett rifle from a safe distance.

Silly liberals, crimes are caused by criminals.

Or the Tyler courthouse shooting for that matter!

In the past they had proposed a ban on any caliber that could penetrate body armour, would have effected most rifle rounds. The FN 5.7 is in the news again.

I expect the current administration to do some knee jerk reaction with all the recent shooting on the news. Seems they react way too much to TV coverage.

"Big Boomers", cute. And firearms like the Thompson Center Contender, Remington XP-100, etc, have been in production how long? Or is this in referance to the AK pistols and KelTec PLR16 pistols? I can't remember anyone ever using them in a crime, must have missed that, same as the writers of this piece can't find a single crimimal misuse, either.
Ban brains, they cause evil thoughts!

Correct me if I'm wrong but the lil' 30-30 can penetrate body armor, right?
So, I guess they will be going after the BFR now also?

This VPC "study" is nothing new. That report has been available on their website for several years now.

Regardless, the VPC stuff is worth reading as it offers much insight into the beliefs and thought patterns of the anti-gun movement.

Frankly, the stuff would be hilarious if not for the fact that there are people who take it as the gospel truth.

Not only is the VPC severely lacking in logic and knowlege of criminology, psychology and economics, they also don't know anything about physics either.

Saturday Nite Specials are too cheap and easy to get.
Pocket pistols are too small and too easy to conceal.
Semi-Autos have too much capacity and are a gangbanger's choice.
Big boomers are too powerful.

I'd guess that the anti's would find no firearm acceptable.

"Assault rifles" are too scary, designed to kill lots of people at once.
"Sniper rifles" are too scary, designed to kill one at a time at long range.
Rubber band guns are JUST right!

They'd ban rubber band guns too. They make people scared and might magically kill somebody with an assault rubber band gun designed to kill many people at once. Or maybe the Saturday night specials will be the new weapon of choice. Or the Big Boomer rubber band guns might be able to shoot a space shuttle out of the sky...

trying to make make sense of this so called "report" is like trying to explain to the boss why you hired a plumber to fix the wiring on the 2 million dollar 5 axis milling machine that your company uses to make engine blocks for NASCAR or Bugatti.

Hmm, I thought that the blissninnies thought that handguns were MORE powerful than rifles; which would make it seem like a GOOD thing in their world that the anemic power of rifles was being put into handguns.

But every few years they pick a new "demon" gun style to go after to see if it will resonate with joe fencesitter.

In any event, everyone knows that the gangbangers' preferred cop-killing weapon these days is the T/C Encore single shot in 7-30 Waters with a 15" barrel.

Heck, there's still people out there who think you have to be a militia member to have a Constitutional right to own guns. Course, many of those same people would call the type of guy who hangs out on THR a "dangerous right wing extremist militia member".

One example: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-mann/handgun-crowd-returns-fir_b_354049.html#postComment

For anyone who reads down to the comments section, I'm happygeek84 on there (some b*stard had already taken the username happygeek).

And just exactly how did you explain it to your boss??? (Kidding:D)
