Ruger Bob: Macmac- all I ever use is rem oil or wd-40. I don't use nothing to strong cuz the gun cleanibg room is also the computer room and the wifes sewing-crafts room. A good compromise for me. And both oils w get the job done. Bob

The angery face was about the smoking and so was the comment.. Not fer much longer.. Since the Govt has seen fit to raise the taxes on April 1st to be 150% and more on any bacca products.. any..

WD-40 should be considered a cleaning agent, and is not anything like the claims made on the can.. Most of it is gone 3 days after any application.

Just incase you didn't know.... I use it fo cleaning metals and for testing vacuum leaks on engines..

That Rem Oil is dangerous, read the lable and do what it says. In case you use PB Blaster it is more dangerous that Rem Oil... I can no longer work with that product, one whiff and I can't breath, and that includes out door use.

I deal with heavy rusted metals and siezed bolts, and find even after a application of PB Blaster that upto and passing 3 days that if I hit a metal part I treated with it, and still need oxy actelene torces the fumes are over powering, this too out doors.. Watch that stuff.

Yosemite Sam I always get a funky taste in my throat after I leave an indoor range. I must be inhaling and it can't be good over time...

You are posioning yourself. I can't know what the taste is, but i assume copper because lead is sweet to the taste.

I am a x foreign car tech from the days of real asbestos and lead gasoline. I recall the taste of sweet lead.

I also work in silver to include copper and brass to replicate Trade items of 1750-1840. Buffing copper leaves a most unpleastant after taste in my mouth.

Do not breath this stuff... Do not smoke and or eat, scratch you face with out first washing both your hands and face..

No indoor range should leave this taste with proper venting..

I use a product called NyOil. It is completely odorless, no fumes. And I think it works better than Ballistol or other gun oils to lubricate and prevent rust.

There are plenty of non-toxic solvents, Hoppes Elite comes to mind. And there are also many lubricants that are odorless also. Mill-Comm and Militech1 are a couple.

I make sure to keep all the doors and windows closed so as to enjoy the full Hoppes experience.
I don't think the fumes from cleaning solvents are harmful.
