wmeSha, you do raise a good point. IF guns were completely outlawed, collected and scrapped, certainly some casual criminals who were just picking the low hanging fruit might not have access to firearms.
However,you then have to wonder if now having removed the threat of an armed victim would encourage the same amount or increased amount of harder, more violent criminals to replace them. Perhaps they might be armed with black market guns, or maybe armed with knives or other more readily available weapons.
