Gun Control Fails Again
Disarmed citizens unprepared

The New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense wishes to express our sincere regrets to the victims of the Kingston NY shooting incident, and to remind citizens they should not judge 180 million American gun owners by these isolated incidents.

Every day that events like Kingston occur, there are an estimated 5479 other crimes successfully deterred nationwide by armed Americans who were prepared to defend life and limb with a firearm. For those of you who wonder if there just may be some bias against guns and self-defense in the media, kindly note that almost never are any of those 5479 daily instances where guns are used in self-defense reported in the newspaper.

This incident may well have been foiled, had a citizen been prepared to do so. However, the victims were unarmed, lulled into a sense of false security from decades of being told to rely on police for protection. However, the police we are told to rely upon for protection were not present to "protect and defend" for a reason. Police are law enforcement, not crime prevention. They can't be everywhere, and they’re not personal bodyguards.

For those of you who lament that we need more "gun control", please consider carefully what you wish for, because the defenseless citizens in Kingston just got it. This time the event was not terrorist related. Next time, small town America might not be so lucky. The NJCSD reminds you that our 2nd Amendment is America's original homeland security provision.

I was having a good day until I read this :fire: No seriously, it makes me sick that these anti gun groups just sit around waiting for something bad to happen so they can get a little face time in front of the press!!

As I heard it, some idjit showed up at the local mall with (gasp!) an "assault weapon" (nevermind that the make & type of the gun in question has yet to be revealed), popped off a bunch of rounds and finally manage to wound an army recruiter in the leg. He was subdued by the populace when he ran out of ammo. Cops didn't show up until the fun was over, hence the 'enforcement vs. prevention, they can't be everywhere - ' comment.

Idaknow how many shooting incidents they have in Kingston on a daily basis, but only one so far has made the news. When you have a 400 word limit, and deal with a public that has an attention span of 100 words, one has to be terse.

The point to be made by our statement is that while the news media is saturated with sensationalism and the anti-gun lobby will be frothing at the mouth, the rest of America needs to hear a sane, counterbalancing point of view from the RKBA perspective.

Kingston is in Ulster County. Pistol permits are issued allowing unrestricted carry.
This permit allows you to possess and carry concealed, without regard to employment or place of possession, by any person when proper cause exists for the issuance thereof.

I've never seen a sign in any mall in NY State prohibiting the carry of a concealed firearm on the premises.

The people in Kingston were unarmed by their own choice, or their ignorance of the law, not the government's actions. If they wanted to carry a concealed handgun, they could have obtained a permit easily.

There goes that attention span I was speaking of earlier.
