So a brother's birthday is coming up, and I'd like to give him an SKS for plinkin. Since buying the rifle 3 years ago, I've hardly shot it (post AWB, I bought a few AKs), and I figure he'd like it.
Pretty much, I don't know anything about laws regarding gifting firearms. From what I can tell, if I were to give it to him tomorrow and then he (through circumstances I can't even fathom, as he's an upstanding fellow) committed a crime with it, I'd be liable. (right?). Or, at least, the rifle would still technically belong to me...
If you would be so kind, please direct me to any resources addressing this issue, especially if there are previous THR threads. Are there papers I should fill out to legally make it his rifle? Not the ATF Form 4, right?
I live in Middle Tennessee, if that helps with the legal hoopla.
I apologize if this has been answered a ton before... I know how irritating it is to see questions pop up again and again and again.
