Well it seems their policies added on to the home owners insurance is:

$200/yr for $10,000 in coverage
$300/yr for $15,000
$400/yr for $20,000

This is specifically for firearms coverage with $0 deductible and also includes if you blow up your gun! I specifically asked! He wanted to know how that would happen...that took a little explaining. :D

I had never thought about the possibility of your gun blowing up or being ruined without the manufacturer covering it but seeing how I reload...It's starting to not look like a bad idea.

Does anyone else have firearms insurance and what are you paying. I am trying to gauge if this is a decent price or not.

Thanks!

Your car insurance cared about your firearms? Is that because you transport them in the car?:confused: Your homeowner or renter insurance is the only one that oughta care.

I've got USAA as well; I decided not to insure my firearms but only because it didn't seem cost-effective. As solid as USAA is, I'd have a hard time imagining that they're not at least a good deal and may even be one of the best deals.

I'm with USAA also. Extremely easy company to do business with.

I have a valuable personal property rider with them for a premium of 415.00 for 28k of coverage. Yes, they wanted serial numbers and I obliged.

They only wanted model/serial numbers.

The problem also is that while I have a small sized collection. I couldn't possibly count the value of the holsters, ammo, components, reloading equipment, accessories.

I would imagine these comes close to equaling the value of my collection.

Do any of you have any thoughts on that?

Couldn't these be covered by homeowner's or renter's insurance? My renter's insurance is $10/month through USAA and easily covers the value off all my stuff.

I may have to check out the firearms insurance. For me, USAA ranks right up there with companies like Dillon in terms of customer support and satisfaction.

I don't worry about components, machines or any other stuff in the "man cave". That's what normal insurance is for.

For the guns, I have a spreadsheet that covers the gun (columns for make, model, finish, caliber, price, etc.) Accessories are listed because I want to ensure that I get paid for them if stolen or burnt up (optics, upgraded wood stocks or parts, stuff attached to the gun).

i have usaa for all of my insurance needs...i just recently got the valuable personal property rider for my firearms...
for 11k worth of coverage it is going to cost me $127 a year.
while i did have to provide make, model and serial #'s i trust them completely. they also ask for additional firearms accessories that you want to insure...optics, weapons lights, etc.
the part that sold me on it, was the fact that you can name your price on each firearm. so you can basically set your own replacement value.
i give usaa a big thumbs up.

I worked as an attorney in civil cases for USAA's clients for many years at a former firm. They run the tightest ship of any of the insurers I worked with, and they take their obligations very seriously. Other insurers, esp. the ones off the web nobody has heard of ... meh. You take your chances.

Of course, whether it's worth the price depends on your existing coverage and the value of your collection. I'd encourage anyone looking into this to ask lots of questions of their carrier and also make sure you understand how the value is calculated and compensated. There are different methods, and firearms are quite unlike other kinds of chattle property. For example you may not want a policy that only gives you coverage to replace the firearm with a suitable equivalent. Replacing a 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer worth $6,000 with a modern firearm in the same chambering, for example. It's better to know ahead of time than find out if something happens. And be sure to find out what losses are excluded. Theft? Fire? Flood? These are three of the most common. Much more common than a kaboom for example.

Maybe I need to call them to check, because when I asked USAA a few years back about seperate coverage for firearms, they said they were covered up to the amount of my homeowners policy, and that I did not need a separate rider.

Good question. Why wouldn't the homeowners policy cover this just like any other possessions?

USAA covers all my guns.

They wanted serial number/model/brief description, but they offer full coverage. In writing, they are COVERED. The only things not covered are incidents such as "nuclear fallout damage as result of war, space based laser attacks" and the like. It was comical the things they specifically excluded...

My agent says my regular homeowner's policy covers guns just like all the other contents in the house, but the value of the guns will be aggregated with all the other contents and the total claim cannot exceed the coverage limit.

i love USAA. when i started they wanted to know every minute detail of my weapons, but since then they dont care, they will take care of my stuff as long as i produce evidence of what i own (owned). cant beat that with a stick

I asked them that specifically, the answer is that it covers $2,000 worth of firearms coverage but you have to pay the deductible on that  my deductible, 1% of home value is more than that...so kinda moot point. He said yes it was and I should have specific coverage. I also got the wedding rings put on there too.

Haven't decided on what coverage to go with for the firearms yet. The odds that they all get stolen is kinda slim, sorta like the house burning down. At that point I think I would have bigger concerns than the firearms. Knock on wood, hope that never happens...again.

Just updated my insurance at USAA.com, it's now much easier than trying to read it off over the phone. USAA, once again, improves service. :)

I use USAA for my insurance needs, but Collect Insure was much cheaper for firearms insurance. The only thing with Collect Insure is that they are more restrictive in their terms.

This is interesting. I need to look into USAA and insuring my collection. How do I contact a USAA Agent. Do they have local reps or do you have to contact them by phone?

I know that I already meet their eligibility for coverage clause.
