Gun Insurance called USAA

I am glad you guys have such a great experience with USAA. I just dropped them from homeowners. They have inceased my wind/hail/rain damage to 2% deductable of the value of my property and home. That is just crazy. I asked abou a standard deductable and they said they do not do that. I use them for auto's and that is great. I asked about guns and they started asking about serial numbers, make, models, storage locations, and even said they would need to come out and do an inspection to make sure I am storing them correctly and using gun locks. I told them I have a few departmentally issued weapons and then they freaked out saying that I could not store them together. I would need an approved safe and then they wanted to see if I had reloading equipment. I said the hell with them and switched to State Farm... I have been with USAA for 26 years...

I started with USAA in 1966 and never thought about firearms coverage. In the past couple of years I've bought 3 new rifles for about $2300, which means I now own 10 firearms. Thanks for raising the issue. I need to call for a quote.

I'd love to insure my guns but I'll be damned if I'll submit to handing my brands, types, model #'s, & serial numbers to some company so they can be stored on their computers.

My couch is insured as is my refridge, stove and all of my TVs and no insurance company has ever requested and serial numbers. I take pictures of all valueables and store the pics/info on-site & off-site snf that's perfectly fine with my insurance co.

A tip for those like me who had to learn it the hard way. You may think your homeowners covers your guns, and it does, up to like a $200 cap. Ouch.

Good question. Why wouldn't the homeowners policy cover this just like any other possessions?
Homeowners insurance typically only covers a set amount of firearms value, like $2500, and it's subject to your deductible. Also only covers the "covered risks" listed in the policy.

Yeah, you sure showed them. You still have the car insurance with them.
