Dear Friends,
I currently keep my five long guns in a false wall in my closet. I have decided that this is not good enough for general safty from burglars, intruders, (possibly kids), or friends.
I recently purchased a gun safe. It's perfect for my needs, but I am thinking about keeping it in the garage. I've already read about dehumidify it, and keeping power tools out of the garage (which could be used against it), but my main concern is that the garage is detached. I do not necessarily want the neighbors or who ever seeing the collection simply being put in the garage.
I want to put the gun in the garage because there is not much room within the house, and it can be bolted to concrete, not wood. I plan on setting up a home chime system to alarm me if the garage is opened, a automatic garage door closer (should I forget), and a motion sensing light in the garage for when we pull in, and to alarm burglars near the barred window or inside.
In addition to all these measures I plan on building two cinder block walls on each side to prevent burglars from tipping the safe over, block any water seeping in, or against any (?) fires.

Any thoughts?

Since the garage is detached, you wouldn't be able to know if there was anyone in there, trying to break into the safe. You might not see the motion sensing light, and if it does go off, the bulbs can be taken out by the burglar. It would seem that keeping them behind a hidden wall, but in close proximity, would be a safer bet.

Just try and make sure that nobody knows that you have guns in the house and not many will be looking for hidden compartments.

Good points, what about a self-monitoring system or alarm of some kind? Just thoughts... I might put it in the living room...
