Anyone have a gun season coming up in the next week or two?

Ohio's starts the Monday after Thanksgiving, but unfortunately my company lost our contract and we were forced to go to other company, lost 10yrs seniority, and vacation time so I will miss every day but Sunday. Gun season in Ohio is usually pretty good to me. I have only shot 6 deer in my hunting career and all but one have been with a slug gun, muzzleloader or straight walled rifle. I haven't missed a gun week in probably 9yrs so have to get it done this weekend with the crossbow or next Sunday with the Marlin 1895.

What will you guys be shooting in the next few weeks?

High-powered rifle comes in Saturday here in VA. After missing last year, I am looking forward to this year, and hoping to get something with my .30/06, which would be the first one with my handloads.

Good luck! What kind of 30/06?
I took two last year with my 45-70 handloads and the excitement was more because i did it with bullets i make.

Gun season opens here in NY Saturday, I will be hunting opening day with my Glock model 40 10mm with my handloads, hoping for an exciting morning
Just out of curiosity what's the effective distance on that?

Man that's the pits, sorry to hear it. Nebraska started last Sat and I went to my family's ranch for Sat, Sun and Mon. Settled for a 3x4 whitetail on my last day after passing up on some better ones opening day. That's the game you play though, I suppose. Shot him from about 125 with my .270 and I dropped him in his tracks. Season ends this coming Monday but I got mine :D

Best of luck to you on your hunt!

Thanks, and good luck to you, too! Sorry to hear about your limited time, try to make the most of each moment.

I have a Remington 700 ADL with a Timney trigger and Burris FullField E1 3-9X40. Have gotten a couple of deer with it, but this would be the first with anything that I have loaded myself, and the first time hunting with decent (non-Walmart-Tasco) glass.

We have a gun "teaser" here thanksgiving weekend, then we are back to archery until the first week of Dec., then a week of black powder, then gun season from mid Dec. until mid Feb., then black powder for another week or so, then done. The regs here are difficult to follow. For the teaser I plan to use my Ruger American Ranch in 300 blackout suppressed with Hornady's new sub-x round. After that, I MAY hunt some more with the Xbow (got 1 deer with it already this year). Then I'll be using my traditions in line BP rifle during that season. For general gun season, I will use either the 300 B-O or my 700 sporter in 243.

I used to be a tasco and bushnell banner guy and then "upgraded" to Nikon prostaff's. I purchased my first Leupold scope vx2 2-7-33 and i absolutely love it.

Last year when i shot the 12pt Non typical i kept the 45-70 case and haven't reloading it. Kind of a sentimental value.

Saturday up in Door County Wisconsin. I am crawling outta my skin with anticipation! 6 tags to fill. Will be using my old Bubba'd No4Mk1, K31 and 4"629. Hopefully I will see one deer!

I am hoping to bag at least a big doe one of those days. I've got two big ones hanging on the wall so I'm kind of over the big buck syndrome so anything will due at this point. I honestly don't care about killing anything I just like being out there.

After a couple unsuccessful crossbow hunts I'm hoping to redeem my self when the NY state gun season begins Saturday. I hunt several different areas so depending on location this year.... Rifle zone - Kimber sporterized Swedish mauser 6.5x55; or a .30-30 Marlin lever gun for the thicker areas. Shotgun zone - 12 ga. Remington 870 with fully rifled barrel..... Or any zone I want - Stainless Ruger Redhawk ; 7.5" barrel in 44 Magnum.... All are sighted in & ready to go. Just getting a deer isn't that important to me anymore, either; compared to just being out there. Although my step-daughter is reminding me that her and the kids would really like to get some venison.

1972 was my first opening day of Ohio gun, haven’t made every one but at least 7/8 of them:)

I’m using an H&R ultra slughunter 20 gage with Remington copper solids.

Last year all I saw was a yearling doe so I didn’t shoot, year before I killed a buck and year before that a doe.

For the first time in the last 8 seasons I’ll be hunting alone as my oldest son has a commitment, he killed a buck and doe on Monday with a bow and counted 8 different bucks on our property so needless to say I pumped.hope the weather holds up.

This Saturday modern gun deer season opens in Tennessee and I will be hunting the first three days. We had a good summer, according to what we saw in the cameras, with feeding with feeders and replanting several of our food plots. We have had some of the best looking deer we have seen since we bought the property show up in the cameras. I got skunked last year so my new 450 Bushmaster still needs to take its first deer.

I am pretty sure the deer pictured above, taken earlier this summer, I missed a shot on last year. Hopefully I get a second chance to take him this year.

Last year's view from my favorite stand with my 450 Bushmaster.

Ours opened 11/10. Took a doe with my 300WSM. Need to go to a different bullet. The 150gr Accubond is a bomb going off in their insides. Way too much expansion even at 250 yards. I have been out at least 2 times a week since mid-September and have yet to see a buck chasing. Everyone that I have talked to said that they are chasing, but I am not seeing it. I do have one picture on trail came of a spike breeding a doe.

Depending on where you hunt in GA you could have rifle hunted as early as Oct. 11th. The season ends January 15.

Stew thanks for clearing that up
I found it strange to have a cow and not be able to carry in the woods because of barrel length, not then again it is ny.
Will miss the am on Sat. Have to work till noon

Will miss the am on Saterday

Sorry to hear that, my pleasure to pass on information, what I find amusing is that you technically cannot carry your ccw in your car during hunting season loaded if you have a hunting license because it's considered a hunting weapon, I will anyway just found that rule funny

SATURDAY!
I keep seein' lots of bucks and does on the way to work each morning!
I hope that bodes well!!!

May the Angels favor your hunt, for it is written:
“Alle Kunst ist umsonst Wenn ein Engel in das Zündloch Prunst
All skill is in vain when an Angel pisses on your touchhole [flintlock].
Sort of an old Germanic "Murphy's Law"....

Y'all GOOD LUCK AND STAY SAFE!:D:thumbup:

Well I got this weekend free from all activities so I'm going to bow hunt and get the Marlin 1895 sighted in. I should be able to gun hunt 2 days this year if all goes well.
