Does anyone know or recommend a gun shop in western NC, around the Ashville area? A hunting buddy is moving there, and we looked at a few shops in the area. There is one in Waynesville that is fairly reasonable, but there are bound to be more in the area. Eastern TN isn't very far either. Hopefully he can find one with reloading supplies also.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I've done a lot of business with On Target off of Sweeten Creek Rd. Small store, indoor range (pistol cal only), looks to have a decent selection of reloading stuff, but I dont load, so to be honest I haven't looked at that section very hard.

Not too far away in Burnsville NC there's Prices Creek General Store (AKA Max Blue's). I haven't been there in years, so I dont know if he sells loading supplies, but "general store" is the perfect term for it. Its a gas station, clothing store, ag supply, and gun store all rolled into one.

Rex's in Hendersonville, havent been there much though.

What part of the Asheville area is he moving to?

hoghunting For firearms and hunting gear in general tell your buddy to come to Bursville NC . Prices Creek General store is the best gun shop around on this side of the state with a very stock on hand. Most all weapons are sold at a discount with most at 10% over his cost. The store is at the corner of Prices Creek rd and US-19 area code is 28714. A couple miles down towards Bursville the off us-19 also is Coppers tradeing post. This would pass as the best bow shop around and everything needed for stands and targets also. Check PM

On target, mentioned above, is okay. Small selection of guns and very very small selection of reloading gear.

Rex's Guns and Ammo in Hendersonville/East Flat Rock (15 mins south of Asheville) has the best stock of reloading and shooting supplies in the area. Also has good prices on guns with a fair selection and an indoor range that is dirty, but allows most anything.

Bear Arms, Inc. in Brevard (25 mins from Asheville) is an excellent indoor range for both rifle and pistol, limited supply of guns/ammo.

Asheville Rifle & Pistol Club is the only outdoor range in Asheville. Membership is required, but all that takes is attending 4 meetings. Dues are $75/year. Warning....the club is very much a bench rest and bullseye oriented organization, no "tactical" anything.

Buncombe County Wildlife club is open to the public for Trap and 5 stand.

There is a public range off of NC-215 (between Waynesville and Asheville) that is pretty nice. BYO target stands or hang a target from what amounts to a clothes line at 25, 50 and 100 yards.

Also, have him come on over and join www.carolinashootersforum.com. It's a very active local forum much like THR.

Thank all of you for the information. His mailing address is in Clyde, but he's up higher in the mountains. He bought his house with extra acres so he can shoot on his property. I'll forward this information to him so he can check out the different shops.

Gun Shots in Western NC

On Target would be my recommendation. I'm not from that area, but was in Asheville on business and just stopped in one afternoon. While it is a small store, the owner was very hospitable and helpful. Should be pretty convenient also as it is about a mile south of the I-40 Sweeten Creek Rd interchange.
