Hi I'm a new member. I have an AR 15 style weapon. I'm looking for feedback on a good sight for it. I love the Trijjicon acog sights but they cost 3 times as much as the AR to build. I'm willing to spend $200-$500 if necessary. I'm looking for something durable, accurate, and that a novice can get used to using comfortably with practice. This is straight up for urban warfare. I want to be able to protect my loved ones. Thanks for any feedback.

The sig Romeo 5 is a nice budget option, it's just over 100 and comes with a low and high mount. It also has the shake awake feature. I also have a vortex 1-8x24 lpvo on an AR, it's really clear and like a red dot at 1 and a scope at anything over. It comes with a mount too. PSA has them on sale, mine was just under 350 shipped including tax.

At the high end if you're patient occationally the Aimpoint pro or some of the Eotech's hit the $500 price point. The Holosum AEMS is within that budget as well. Sig's Romeo 4T is another good option, I have the 4H and really like it and the T is supposed to be a bit better.

With your budget I'd skip the romeo 5. I have 2 of them, and they're great at $100 but if you have more to spend there's nicer options out there.

I also have a Vortex 1-8x24, and if you don't mind a little weight above the usual red dot offerings, they combine the usefulness of a red dot with the advantages of a decent scope for those longer engagement ranges. The 1-6 Vortex is even plenty, the 1-8 just happened to be on sale when I was ready. The 1-4 and 1-6 options have come down in price since 1-8 and 1-10 offerings have become more common. Any of them will do double duty out to as far as one might need an LPVO on an urban protection rifle. At 1, they are a tube red dot, at 4, 6, 8 or whatever the max power is, they increase your range of accurate fire.

Keep checking Midway, Natchez, Optics Planet, they run sales on them regularly. I got my 1-8 with a Vortex one-piece mount for $400.

Welcome to THR. Please feel free to go visit the New Member Introductions Page.

I very much concur with the advice on the Romeo 5, they are a spiffy bit of kit for an AR. My 'reflex' go-to is the Holosun 503, which is a bit more $$ than the SIG, but under US$250 typically. I have a slight preference for the "horseshoe dot" (ACSS) reticule that's pretty standard with the Holosuns.
