A bb gun for god's sake. That's "gun toting"?

Was it a good idea for the teacher to walk in with this in his hands?

Do any of the people involved here have any common sense?

Gun-Toting Teacher Walks Free
School Disciplinary Hearing Held Wednesday

The teacher whose actions caused police SWAT teams to surround a local school will not face charges, Local 4 reported.

Steve Rea, a physics teacher at Plymouth High School, attended a school disciplinary meeting Wednesday for bringing a BB gun into the building on Jan. 30.

Police were called to the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park after a mother reported the teacher had carried a long gun into the high school in Canton Township.

About a dozen police cars were seen in front of the building as officers searched the school complex.

The physics teacher stopped the search when he realized the BB gun locked in a closet in his classroom had caused the scare.

Rea reportedly took the gun to school to use it as part of a physics experiment, according to police.

School officials would not discuss what punishment the teacher potentially faced.

Sigh. It would probably have been smarter to case it, or better yet, tell the administration he was bringing it in.

But you notice what happens to sane people in the schools? It didn't even occur to this poor sap that he'd caused a problem--he let the search go on a bit and apparently didn't put two and two together for awhile.

I heard on the news last night that he will not be punished and that the school system owned the BB gun in the first place!

Ill play the other side....

BB guns have discharged and killed people. Not a huge risk but..... a BB gun is not a water gun... If you know what I mean.

I wouldnt send my own kid to a school that allowed BB guns on its property.

In Minnesota, there is spicific statute that speaks to bb guns on school property. Its a gross misdameaner....

Diesle

This is just down the road from me. You should have seen it. You would have thought that the devil himself was running around the town. They had road closed off, cops all over. You could have robbed the bank across town and no one would have known. If you had to go across town to get somewhere, forget it.

What they don't say in that report is that the Teacher has been using the BB gun for these experiments for YEARS ! He forgot to ask for permission to bring it in this day. So it's not like the school didn't know about what he does with it.

Anything online about that (the school owning the gun)?

Funny and hypocritical in the same message is this. In Michigan as well as all other 50 states, it is against the law to have a gun of any kind in the school.

Funny how its legal for schools themselves to own guns and actually have shooting teams for extra curricular activities as is found in many states and ironically enough in the bleeding heart liberal state of California.

Oh yeah...........wonder what would happen if the school administrators ran the country?

Now thats a scarey thought.

WRONG.

State of Oregon has no law against carrying a handgun concealed in a K-12 school as long as it stays concealed. If you want to get technical, if a person has a CHL, you can carry it OPENLY on school grounds. However, hassle factor if you do that would be enormous. You see, schools think they're above the law. You see it's for the CHEEELLDREN.

There have been people, parents, who were arrested for "Carrying a firearm on school grounds" in both the Portland and Eugene school district. Arrested. Then the D.A.'s had to drop the case because there was no case. The schools say they will continue to throw out CHL holders, and have them arrested via their school resoure officers. You can check Oregon Firearms Federation for more info on this.

I guess you would have run in terror from my school when they let us bring our deer rifles and leave them with the asst principal so we could hunt after school.

Yes, the statute you speak of is most certainly a gross misdemeanor.
Any other liberal tidbits to leave with us tonight?

YAY! I'm seriously happy to see that dude go free with no charges. Anyone that had read the earlier article referring to him would have seen that he's been bringing that BB gun to class for years, for a physics demonstration. Having the cops land all over his *** for something legal (and something he's been doing for years!) is just stupid. I'm glad they got their cranial/rectal inversion problem fixed.

In Michigan you can get permission from the school administrator to bring a gun or guns to a school. This si used many times by people gving history demsonstrations etc.

But why would the physics teacher need permission to bring ther BB gun to school, when the school system owns it? I bet the system bought it many years ago just for these physics expriments and forgot all about it.
