Gunbroker Idiot of the Day!

You don't think that could be a shill bid do you?

I wonder what happened to the top half? Is it in another auction for maybe $500. more?

I like how he says that the reserve is $650 in the description and somebody bid $645. Am I missing something here?

I was wondering about that, too. The same bidder did the same thing on the seller's other auction, also for a complete 1991 lower. Looks like he's messing with him or sending a subtle message.

"This auction has ended but the item has been relisted."

I guess everybody who had the $799.99 realized they could get a Springfield with night sights for that price...

The price is upsetting, but...

What really upsets me is that he is implying that The Taurus 1911 is the best 1911 on the market. I don't own a 1911, but I know enough to recognize that Taurus is not even close to being the best.

So what are the parts about this that you don't agree with?

Destined to become the standard that all 1911 pistols are compared against, the Taurus 1911 offers you the most accurate and feature-laden model on the market today.
It couldn't be this.....I understand that Ed Brown is using Taurus as a template for his auto loader.:)

Our skilled pistol smiths hand-fit and tune each gun with the 19 standard features seen below, using quality parts that are built 100% in out state-of-the-art factory. Then they mark the slide, barrel and frame with matching serial numbers.
Now, who wouldn't want a skill pistol smith to tune up a Taurus? And with the 19 standard features seen below (that aren't seen).
The Taurus 1911 is an unbeatable gun that is also an unbeatable value.
It a lot cheaper than a Sig or HK...well, almost...but, then it's unbeatable:neener:

He just posted the wrong picture....

The price aside, this is the issue that I have the most problem with.

Items can sell in store without notice prior to end of auction.

The seller wants you to bid on items he might or might not have at the time of the auction.

I sold my father's old .225 Winchester Model 70 on Gunbroker for $625. I checked the going rates and condition and priced it accordingly. I don't lie in my auctions, or try to take advantage of people. That's simply what collectors were buying them for, and $625 in pocket is far better than a gun you can no longer readily get ammo for. I sold our remaining ammo later for $80.

My father paid for my Mosin Nagant M91/30 in trade for my services. Picked it up off a private citizen at a gun show for $75. All matching, excellent bore, with the bayonet, ammo pouch, 4 stripper clips, and 20 rounds of 7.62x54R. Just some minor finish issues on the metal and wood. It was, without a doubt, the best Mosin Nagant at the show, and the lowest priced.

Who cares?

Sorry I just don't see the point in getting bent out of shape over what people are selling things for on Gunbroker. If people want to list guns for absurd amounts of money or state facts that are simply not true then that is their business not mine. Its the job of the buyer to determine whether the item they are looking at is worth the money or not. If someone wants to spend money on Gunbroker then they should have the brains to do the research first and ask the right questions. If people want to throw their money away by not doing the proper research before they bid then that's their problem, sellers aren't required to be 100% honest about what they sell so they can say whatever they want if they think it will work.

I've got very little to bring to the table in terms of gun knowledge. But I can give you my 2 cents on marketing and pricing: the goal of every successful business is to maximize the price their market is willing to pay for a given product (yes--even Walmart included). That happens 24/7, everywhere, but goes unnoticed if done correctly. The more successful ones do it in a manner so subtle, that you make the purchase and still have a smile on your face.

The less successful ones do it ham-handedly, and annoy you in the process.

I just want to log on and send the seller a message about how big of a retard he is and why people like him are driving this current gun inflation through the roof.

Talk about embarrassing. You wand to send him a message and call him mentally deficient when you seem to be the one without an understanding of economics and what does or does not drive market prices.

The price for that Taurus is beyond reason.

But you know what? I fell the same way about 1911s I see reveiwed in Guns magazine and Handguns and other gun rags that have 1911s with a retail price of a $1000 and on up to $3500 dollars. There ain't no way in hell I would ever pay that much for a pistol. But somebody does. And when they do I think they are as foolish as the person that just might come along and buy that Taurus.

I have gotten to the point that I look at the price of the gun being reveiwed before I read the article. If its one of the high end guns wth the silly high prices I won't waste time even reading the write up. I have let all my subscritions lapse because of this very thing. Plus I'm tired of reading about 1911s and ARs.

Completely agree with your first question!

The price for that Taurus is beyond reason.
Depends on how you look at it.
Find a .44 special snubby that isnt a charter... in stainless.
You have taurus, rossi, and S&W.
The rossi is a bit larger as are the older taurus models... now price it against a S&W.
I have a blued Taurus 445, and another one on the way.
Neither were near as much as that one is selling for, but they are amazing shooters.
A .44 snubby busting paint cans at 40 yards offhand... works for me.

I think you should tell the buyer how much of a retard he was, not the seller, he's just selling guns to the idiots.... If you paid 20K for your truck and knew you could sell it for 40K and did, would that make you a retard?? No, I think that would make you smart!!! I think the buyers in these markets are the idiots, if they weren't buying at ridiculously overpriced prices, dealers wouldn't be marking their prices up. Face it, we live in a capitalist economy, if someone thinks they can sell something for double or triple what its worth, and there's people dumb enough to buy it, why would you not sell it to them at a ridiculous price??? Are dealer's suddenly held to a higher standard than all other businessmen, are they only supposed to sell every gun for barely enough to pay their bills?? Certainly not, they're going to sell it for the most they can get, and you'd think buyer's are going to buy for the lowest price they can get, if the buyer is dumb enough to not do research and pay double or triple what a guns worth, well then they don't deserve all that money in the first place.
