Last I was told at my post, when you purchased a firearm at the PX, they would do the on-post registration requirement right then and there.

I too miss the old Rod and Gun clubs in what was then West Germany. :)

West Germany, huh? Wow you guys are old here...LOL. I recently found my old US military driver's license for West Germany in a box of stuff. My son's girlfriend was confused as to why each half of the country had it's own license.

For our military guys, the state Glock Law Enforcement dealers will sell you the LE Glocks for LE prices. It's $398 and applicable sales taxes.

The local Glock LE Dealer near Ft. Hood generally charges about $30-$40 over LEO prices for military. A good deal, just not as good as where you are.

Bought my first semi-auto .22 rifle at Hahn AFB in West Germany,,,

Bought my first semi-auto .22 rifle at Hahn AFB in West Germany.

The Rod and Gun club had the best restaurant on base,,,
Go there for a meal, check out your rifle afterwards, and shoot some targets,,,
Then go back into the bar and drink yourself senseless while alibi-ing all of your missed shots.

Depending on which German civilian employee was working the range,,,
Sometimes we drank a few pitchers and went back to shooting. :what:

Ammo was so danged cheap we (even on our dismal base pay),,,
Were able to go shooting several times a week,,,
Draft beer was only 75 cents a pitcher,,,
IIRC .22 ammo was 45 cents a box.

1971 to 1973.

The only problem was getting your gun out of country,,,
There was tons of paperwork to be filed assuming you could have firearms at your new post.

Most of us just sold them to another Airman when we transferred out,,,
I sold my Marlin model 75 for $25.00 and a few beers.

Ahhhh,,,
Good Times.

Fort Bliss PX has been selling guns, ammo, and accessories for about two years now. They always have a nice selection of rifles, pistols, and revolvers. The counter salesmen also told me we could ask them to order certain specific firearms from their on-line catalogue (but I forget the web address). They didn't have what I wanted, so I forgot about it.

Prices are good, comparable to big-box stores like Academy or Cabella's, but there's no state tax, so here in Texas we save 8.125%.

I've bought ammo, but no firearms, so I don't know about the post registration requirements.

When I left Pendleton about 6 months ago their PX (Not exactly the PX, but the "All Seasons Store" ) had been selling firearms for a few years.

Shaw AFB, SC BX/PX opened a gun counter a year or so back. Mediocre selection, higher than average prices, no sales tax.

I buy from Bud's.

Dont't know about now but guns were allowed but not in the barracks. They had to be stored with the armourer. Well that was a while back, like early 1950s

Fort Benning in Georgia, and Fort Rucker in Alabama both sell firearms in their PX's. Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama does not.

I too remember the Rod and Gun Clubs in Europe. I wish I could buy back the guns I bought there and sold! I earned my German Jagdshine (Hunting License) while there and could walk into any German Gunshop or Sporting Goods Store, show my Jagdshine, buy the gun I wanted and walk out. Those were the days.

Do they let you guys keep your guns if you are living on post? Im at a Seabee base right now and I had to put my weapons in the armory. Would be nice if they not only sold the weapons, but allowed you to keep them too

If you can't have a gun on a military base how can you buy one and still comply with the law. After all you have to carry it out/ off the base

Quantico MCB, where I purchased one firearm, has a specific allowance in their "Marine Corps Order" that allows for civilians to purchase firearms at the MCX and drive off post w/ their property. The base also has outdoor ranges that civilians may access on weekends. What that means is if you just purchased OR have your shooting bag on weekends and each firearm is registered w/ Provost Marshals Office (aka PMO), you are okay.

The order also mentions exemptions for the Town of Quantico, which is a Virginia entity, that sits behind the front gate of the Quantico MCB. Firearms may be carried between the Main Gate and the town by anyone who is permitted to carry a firearm on a Virginia road.

PS: I gathered this from reading the order that was posted in the base paper about a year ago. I don't have a copy handy.

When I was stationed on Adak AK, the exchange sold guns there. We could also buy them from FFL's on island and have them shipped in. Just had to register them with base security. Only place to buy ammo too.

It should not matter, if you live in Clarkesville, TN near Ft. Campbell and like milsurp rifles.

There is a decent selection at Allen's Guns, about four miles west of Ft. Campbell Blvd, just south of the base.

He often has not only MNs, SKS types, classic Mausers, and an M-1 Garand etc. Allen also had a very nice FR8 two years ago.
