Does anyone know what counrties have banned guns, the more specific the better. A link would be great. I just need to know how far along these countries are in their civillian disarmament. Thanks.

I await more informed comment but AFAIK - the good ol' US of A is on its own. May that long continue 'as is' tho I surely wish the other places had a second thought and would recant. Fat chance right now tho!

I get the vague impression that at least a couple of former Eastern Bloc countries are neutral to somewhat pro-gun. The Czech Republic and possibly Bulgaria.

Define "banned".

There's a broad range of phenomena here.

A few places have absolute prohibitions of civilian ownership of any firearm.

Most places place heavy restrictions and obstacles to civilian ownership of firearms, so as to be de-facto bans.

(ie: after deep scrutiny, a civilian might be granted the privilege of owning a double barrel bird gun or bolt action .22 which must be kept in a 1000lb safe behind a burglar alarm, and subject to police inspection at any time without notice)

A small handful of places beyond that improve a bit; there's still obstructions and paperwork, but once you get beyond that, you've got a wide array of choices and contexts in which you can be armed.

A very small number of places within the US have something approaching the full glory of the 2nd ammendment.

Research by Jeff Miron at Boston University, examining homicide rates across 44 countries, found that countries with the strictest gun-control laws also tended to have the highest homicide rates.

A PDF of his study titled, "Violence, Guns, and Drugs: A Cross-Country Analysis", is available online.

The reference section has tables that list various gun prohibitions across countries. This study was conducted in 2001.

I also found it funny that the UK's violent crime rates are higher than those in the US. Good job gun ban.

I know the Czech republic places similar-tougher rules on gun ownership than the US although you can own handguns there. They do not allow hollow point ammo though.

Off topic, but is the Federal Expanding Full Metal Jacket bullet considered a hollowpoint?

Canada pisses my off by banning stuff. The next thing they want to bad is the mini 14. Gotta get me one soon then move to the states. Its not too bad here but it could be much better.

Not sure about EFMJ rounds. One could also wonder how the Taurus copper Hex bullet would fall into these things.
What about frangibles?

My brother married a woman from the Czech Republic. I have spent a lot of time with her father and he seemed very suprised that we allowed hollow point ammunition. From my understanding, most of Europe has restrictive guns laws that in no way resemble the 2nd ammendment. He asked my brother one time "why would you need a gun?" and my brother replied that that is the wrong question. The real question is why can't you? Just food for thought.

That's the problem, basically can you resonably get.
Centerfire : Full(nowhere)-Semi-Bolt-Single Shot?
Shotguns : Semi-Pump-other
Handguns : Revolvers-Autos
I a good deal of this through this site.
I found a great one for Australia.

The site you linked to (Gun Control Australia) is severely dated. Since that information was posted, Australia has restricted (if not outright banned) handguns with calibres above .38; those with a mag capacity more than 10; and those with a barrel length less than 120 mm. :cuss:

GCA also deliberately make it sound easier to get a licence than it really is. And it hasn't come anywhere near to stopping yet. :fire:
