Well, it seems that some of my guns have been stolen while my ex wife was holding them so please be on the lookout for these guns.

RRA/Holliger full house A2 Service Rifle. Pinned sight, weights fore and aft, all the goodies, should have the twist rate (either 1:6/5 or 1:7) written in sharpie under the front sight base, my name on the upper (probably removed by thieves) and lots of surf shop stickers on the buttstock. No s/n yet but hopefully I'll have that soon.

Les Baer 1911 Concept IV pistol. No s/n on this either, not sure if I'll get it. No real identifying marks, either.

Compass Lake Engineering .22 Rimfire upper. This upper should still have weights under the handguards, but nothing else identifying EXCEPT THEY DIDN'T TAKE THE BOLT (M261 conversion kit) lol. Basically as a .22 RF it is useless without that. If you guys see one for sale w/o the conversion kit (bolt) please let me know.

You can email me through this forum, or PM me. Please contact me if you have any information. These items were stolen in the Surry/Stokes/Forsyth County area of NC. Yes, I know it would be great if I had s/n info, but I didn't have the opportunity to get that when I needed it...lesson learned. Please help if you can.

Steve

Makes me wonder

First, I hope you get them back.
Do people write their name and phone # on inside of grips? Or do something else to facilitate the return of wandering guns?

Two things

First off, sorry for your loss Steve, and good luck with everything involved in this unfortunate loss.

Second:
Do people write their name and phone # on inside of grips? Or do something else to facilitate the return of wandering guns?

This is a true story. In the 70's a truck driver jumped out of his chip truck and fled the scales. The scale officer came out to investigate and located two firearms in the cab. One, a customized o3a3. There were no serial numbers. The scale officer was also an FFL holder and part time gunsmith. He figured the rifle was worth quite a bit and the owner must have id'ed it somewhere so he began to take the stock off the action. Expecting to find a drivers license number or social security number, initials, or something, he found nothing. Still not ready to give up he took the recoil pad off. Underneath it tucked into a hole in the butt was a rolled up piece of paper. We unrolled it and written was something like, "This rifle was stolen from John Smith, 2231 Riverside Rd, City, State, and phone number". We called John, located in another state. He had filed a stolen report with his local authorities. He got his rifle back. We got the chip truck and never did locate the driver.

If you bought them from an FFL dealer, and remember where and when, the FFL would probably have a record of the SN.

I'm sure you know that though.

Are you sure they were stolen, and not either given away or sold by your ex out of spite? I don't know how your relationship is with your ex, so for all I know you two could be on excellent and friendly terms, but of course many members here are probably wondering the same.

Have you informed the local PD?

Also, you might want to take note of upcoming gun shows and take a look there. Aside from perhaps the 1911, I would imagine the thiefs would try to sell those items at a gun-show or gun-shop as they're specialty items.

Sorry to hear about this and good luck getting them back.

TexasRifleman, she wasn't holding them for me. They were supposed to be returned months ago.

Yeah, the Sheriff's involved. We'll see if he finds the guilty party...I hope so.

No comment on the other thoughts. I'm sure that all individuals are being investigated.

Get and post your serials. There is a gun show here in Richmond this weekend and I will keep an eye out.

Sorry about your loss. I doubt that they will ever make their way to Texas, but I will be on the lookout at Gunshows.

Steve,

I feel your pain. My ex was "holding" a lot of my stuff, and amazinly when the garage was broken into (or left open), only MY stuff went missing.

I hope you get your guns back.

I feel for ya, man.

12+ years ago my first wife and I separated and the guns were in her possession. I lost them all - she sold them. A NIB Series 70 Gold Cup, a Gen 1 Glock 17, a primo Browning BDA, and too many others to list.

Of them all, after letters, legal action, and having the identified buyers served, I only got back a few (lower value) pieces of a really nice collection.

It worked out money-wise, as I got their equivalent value in the property settlement... but the collectible pieces were gone.

Ancient history now, and my present collection is much more impressive... but what's lost is forever lost.

I hope it all works out for the best.

In my case, as much as I miss those guns, getting rid of the ex and marrying the true love of my life makes the loss insignificant.

The worst time of my life was when my now ex-wife refused to let me move the guns out of the house to a location neutral to both of us. She maintained that none of my options were neutral enough.
Fortunately Spooky Old Alice was forthcoming about keeping and returning them to me. I got Lucky.
My first thought was that your ex needed money and sold them and I hope that is not the case for your sake. Then again if she did and you filed a police report it can be used for your benefit in the divorce procedings.
If you were a common law couple (not legally married) you may be in for trouble but again here is to hoping that things with her are on the up and up.

Steve,

I wish you luck.

Long as you guys are looking at gunshows...look for a preWWII FN Highpower s/n 47712. It was in pristine condition when it was stolen. Many years ago and should be in the databases as stolen. At least the Waynesboro PD sends me a postcard every year inquiring if it's been recovered.

Do you have any legal documentation to show that these were your property after the divorce?

If she took them and sold them then this may qualify as theft of firearms, which I think might be a legal no-no.

George, ok, don't be OTLO. *** am I supposed to do, not say a word? Jeez, if I had the inkling that this would happen (these were not in my household, thus I could not ensure they were in a safe) I would have had their S/N's. Give a guy a break will ya? This is my lot now. If you don't like it go complain about someone arguing over 9 vs. 45.

All the legal questions are by the wayside. The situation leading up to this was already far out of my control. I have gotten used to dealing with "results" and not being able to take action.

I'll be OTLO in case they ever make it to the other corner of the continent.
If you haven't already, you should download GunSafe or some other free program and log the serial numbers, condition, photos, etc. of your other and future guns in case this ever happens again (lets hope not).
I hope you get them back, sounds like some nice weapons.

As long as we are contributing our own:
Glock 19
SN: CGP 329
Reported to Hillsboro P.D. Dec. 2005

Log into any forums for enthusiasts of your "missing" firearms and post your info there. There are a whole bunch of guys already looking out for what you're missing, so they're already in the correct frame of mind. Yours is not an isolated occurrence and I'm sure you can find some willing eyes.

I'm not missing any yet (fingers crossed).
Still happily married.
She's afraid to get between me and my guns anyway.
