how much fun I had shootings my Uberti 73 in 45 Colt, Ruger Vaqueros in the same and a hammered double 12 guage filled with REAL black powder and belching fire and smoke. The only way to have more fun was to pull both triggers on the hammered double at the same time and double all the targets.
I know what you mean. There probably exists a 22 rifle that is not fun to shoot but I haven't met it yet. It is very easy to turn around one day and realize you now have quite a brood of 22s in the safe. Oh well, I can think of worse problems to have...
I have a match conditioned 1911 that looks pretty GI stock on the outside and shoots fantastically. I had two range officers lurking behind me when I first got it back from the smith watching it chew up the center of a 25yd timed fire target one handed for a few magazines. That was fun.
I'll have to revisit this when my AR builds are done. I am warming up to the soulless black rifle that makes the "sproing" noise every shot as I put them together. First, I'll need a Dillon press to feed them to really enjoy them.
I most enjoy my M1a or S&W 2.5" 66 with HOT .357.. Here's my wonderful girlfriend shooting her Valentines day present.... and no I didn't force her, she wanted it. I got lucky.
Well, if you're into military surplus guns like I am (especially U.S. ones), then this one's really fun: The M1898 Springfield.. or, better known as the Krag rifle.
For me, this gun is more fun to shoot than my Garand or any other gun for that matter. I enjoy shooting this Krag the most because it makes the most out of the shooting experience. The side loading gate is very unique; you just throw five loose .30-40 rounds in the box and slap it shut. Then, when chambering the cartridge, you get to enjoy the smoothness of the single-lug bolt. If you ever get the opportunity to shoot a fine ole Krag like this, jump on it. It's not a gun for spewing out as many rounds as you can; it's a gun that makes you appreciate the history, the elegance, and ultimately the craftsman ship put into it.
Right now my favorite is a newly acquired Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk1. But after shooting that for a bit, switching to my CZ 452 in .17 HMR feels like I'm holding a Cricket 22.
Some of the best fun for me has been my old 1886 Winchester and Colt SAA in 44 spl when shooting black powder in them. I also had a Navy Arms 1866 copy in 22 cal that was a ton of fun to shoot. I foolishly traded all of them off in the past.
