Guns you got for Christmas

This is a neat thread.

Like a number of others, I have never received a "real" firearm for Christmas. Not that many gun people in the family. It would be something I would have to do for myself. I've bought a couple that I sort of consider birthday presents, but never on Christmas.

The one thing that I did get for Christmas one year was a BB gun(!!). I am guessing it was a typical Crosman 760 pump, nothing fancy. I was around 10 or 11 years old. My brother has the picture where I am opening it for Christmas and I am literally grinning ear to ear.

That gun taught me a valuable lesson. That whether you are hunting for need or sport, if you are successful something pays with it's life and that is no small thing. I killed a robin and I remember putting it in the freezer; I kind of felt I should dress it and eat it after the fact...

I think about it sometimes, like when I read this thread.

Hope you all had a nice Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all on THR. I didn’t work much this year so I spend a lot of time on THR and spending time with family. I did a lot of shooting up until all the ammo shortages. For the op. Dad gave me several guns over the years for Christmas. My favorite was a Ruger 10/22. God bless us all for 2021.

My departed Mother gave me my first brand new gun Christmas 1977. A Ruger 10/22. Back when all of them had Walnut stocked with aluminum triggergroups, buttplate and barrel bands. Was $59.99 at Best Products in Hampton, Virginia. I loved that rifle.

My dad has gifted me many rifles/shotguns and a pistol for my birthday/Christmas (both in December) over the years. All have been exceptional and I still have most of them. I did sell a Remington 1100 20ga, and my first .22, a Browning BLR-22 Grade II when I was young and dumb. But I still have my first hunting rifle, which I got for Christmas when I was 13. Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight in .257 Roberts...

I had that same gun/caliber 30yrs ago never should have sold it. My uncle in Montana hunted everything with a .257 Robert's model 30 Remington many, many years ago. Killed all of his big game including numerous elk, black bears, mulies, a moose and 2 grizzlies with it. Nobody ever told him you needed a big magnum to do it... and all using a peep sight too. Beauty of a rifle you have.

A 10/22 around '72 (50 bucks new, walnut standard model).
Think I got a Single Six used ( 5.5" .22 mag). That was 5th grade.

Don't think I'b bought myself a gun for Xmas.

I took one yesterday to a shop to consign. I don't hunt as much as I used to so have only a couple rigs.

Am not a sentimental person.
Was an avid hunter and shooter years ago, so had stuff.
Almost all gone now that I'm pushing 60.
Haven't goose hunted in 20 yrs. Proly should get rig of my 1100 magnum.
But I take it as a spare to turkey camp in case I or a bud needs a backup rig.

Good deal on the glasses.
BBs bounce back so easy.

Took a BB to my shooting glasses as a kid at a buddy's house.
Hit the target and it came back.
Last BB I shot.

Pellets from then on (and they too can bounce back, but way less chance than BB).

Yep, made sure they were wearing their safety glasses, as was I. Fun stuff!
