Guns you got for Christmas

I went into a pawn shop that was on my LGS rotation one Christmas Eve and saw this Walther TPH in .25 ACP sitting in the case with a $1050 price tag. I told him it was too rich for my blood and he said "It's Christmas Eve, I'll give you a deal you can't refuse." He must have stolen it as I got it for $450 OTD. It's my only US Walther and one of my favorite carry guns. To this day I haven't seen another one in person. tempImageJiKEJL.png

I love Walthers. That gun is great looking. Never thought of owning a 25, but I would take that one in a flash....

Really?

It’s still the 24th, daytime. Santa won’t be here until tonight. I’m expecting a chunk of coal.

Given the time that statement came from it would have been a decent gift. Most used coalition heat with, one piece wouldn't have lasted long though.

I can only remember 2 that I got for Christmas, the first a savage 12 ga pump, don't remember the model number, that my girlfriend bought me. I tried to use it but the lop was too long, had it out that year small game hunting, a ruffed grouse busted up, I pulled up, the buttstock hit under my arm pit but managed to get on it, them couldn't release the safety with my gloves on.

The Second was shortly after my shoulder surgery, a savage m111, in 7mm Remington magnum. I used to shoot that cartridge, 3006, and 12 ga shotgun all the time so I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, yeah right, brought tears to the eyes. I'd about half a box to zero, I was done. My wife and sister finished paying it off so I could use it for hunting, but... Any way my sister wanted to try it out I vehemently said no, but to no avail, she a petite, 5' 90 lb woman sat down took aim, I could see the pain in her eyes and helped her up. I tried to warn her, just couldn't handle the utter rejection when I said no. About a week later I traded it on a glenfield m60 and a savage m111 in 243 at one shop, then went to another and put on layaway a win 670 in 06. The 243 win was the perfect gun, after I found ammo for 50 dollars a box, shot 4 rounds to zero and went hunting. The first shot I took was like getting hit with a piece of paper. The glenfield m60 my wife claimed as hers. I didn't have the win 670 long, it too had too much recoil and now resides I'm my SIL's gunsafe.

Nothing when I was a kid except for the usual toy guns just about every kid had when we growing up. Nowadays I have to say my wife has been very good at being one of Santa's little helpers, especially when it comes to my gifts at Christmas time! It started a few years back when I asked Santa for an engraved Pietta Remington NMA that was on sale from Cabelas. Alas it was too good to be true as a couple of weeks after they took the order they emailed my wife and said that the gun was out of stock and on back order. Next came another email and now they didn't know if they were going to be getting anymore this year. Finally the finishing blow came when they just wrote to her and said her order had been cancelled!

My wife, not easily deterred, asked me for a second choice and they did have a Pietta NMN that was in stock and also on sale so I went with that instead. The year after that it was a Pietta Colt Model 1860, also on sale at Cabelas. But now it seemed like Cabelas wasn't doing their usual pre-Christmas sale on black powder revolvers so I broke with tradition and found my engraved Pietta NMA, on sale as well, this time at EMF Company. And my lovely wife furthered sweetened the Christmas pudding with a cherry on top by way of getting me a conversion cylinder to go with it! And speaking of conversions that year she also got me a CZ Kadet .22 conversion for my P07!

Isn't she the greatest!

I'm usually the one who gives guns for Christmas instead of receiving them, but this year has been very different. Insurance company (LähiTapiola, a finnish one, avoid, spread the word) has screwed us over for a six figure sum we've been forced to finance ourselves and until the lawsuit clears, it's tight to say the least.

I managed to scrape enough together to get my son slings for one of his rifle and shotgun, but that was about it. Seeing the surprise on his face when he realized that made my Christmas this year...

To bad it wasn't the old days when you could have introduced his knees a to Mr baseball bat.

Yes I have done that on occasion as well. Picked up a Kahr CM9 one year on Christmas Eve after comparing it side-by-side to a Beretta Nano and deciding the CM9 felt better in my hand. It also helped that it was on sale too!

A couple of years ago a little before Christmas the wife and I were out shopping when we stopped in at the local gun emporium. Checked out a few 9mm.s when I came across a new CZ P07. As soon as I picked it up I knew I liked it as it just felt right in my hand with great ergos, balance, and sights. The trigger was decent in DA and really nice in SA. So I got it for Christmas that year and like the gift that keeps on giving, after reading the manual I found out that I could easily convert the decocker into a thumb safety so I could carry it in Condition One! It doesn't get much better than this only it did because later my wife got me the Kadet .22 conversion kit for it! Oh and I also get knives as gifts for Christmas too!
