guns you've fired in your lifetime

I cut my centerfire handgun teeth with a C96 7.63mm Mauser at age 11, many more quickly followed.

Outside of Army fun, the most exotic was a .577 Synder Carbine.

It would be in the hundreds, over a fifty year span. Ill break it down to a few categories:

Most valuable: A double barreled 4 bore James Purdey & Sons elephant rifle. Only four were made. Two are unaccounted for. And yes, the wonderful gentleman who owned it knew exactly what he had. He collected them, including the next gun.

Hardest kicking: You would think it would be the 22# monster above but you would be wrong, the monster above only used 275grs of 1F to propel its 2000 grain conical bullet. Hardest kicking was a Thomas Bland & Son 4 bore single barrel that only weighed 19 lbs. Charge was 385 grains of 1F pushing that 2000 gr bullet. About 240 ft-lbs of recoil. Cannot be fired from the sitting position. And by the way, don't listen to those stories about recoil from a large bore black powder rifle being a "gentle push" It was savage, It broke my collar bone on the first shot. My fault, I didn't listen to it's owner and held it incorrectly. Never shot it again.

Rarest (not to be confused with most valuable.): The two rolling block rifles I made myself out of blocks of steel and discussed in last year's thread "Why no new rolling blocks." one is a 30-06 and the other is a 45-70. Each one is the only one in existence.

Most fun: An M1A1 Thompson vs. a forest of invading kitchen appliances. What a hoot! And finally.

The one gun I have that I will NEVER shoot: A C96 Broomhandle Mauser, with matching wooded holster.....that was never fired after proof testing. The gun is in 99+ condition and is still gooped in cosmoline.

That's my list

Too many to list.

Some memorable ones:

404 Jeffry in a Dakota bolt action (WOW!)

454 Casull (too much gun for me)
Contender Encore with a .30-06 barrel (hand numbing)

Iv shot alot of different guns but one that stands out is a friends dealer sample full auto Ak47 with a snub barrel(5 inch?) . it was absolutely nuts, holding to on target from 15 yards was almost impossible even in short bursts.

As a young boy in Florida, my uncle bought & sold cases of guns & ammo. He sold a lot of guns to Cuban fokes. After that he had quite a nice collection of firearms. I was hooked! My father served in the USAF & I went in at 17 .After getting out I have worked with firearms. At 55, I cannot list all the firearms I have shot! I have had friends in the military that have let me shoot some nice stuff. But remembering them all, just can't. I guess I should have wrote it down! One of the most memorable was the M60, as I was the M.G.man on our 4-man security team, as a S.P.at 18 in the USAF. It was great & I got all that free ammo to shoot on the range! But no A-gunner to help!

Recently got to fire a full auto Kriss, a .45acp sub gun with a 1200-1400rpm rate.
Pretty memorable, has to be the most exotic thing I've ever shot

Forgot the HKs, USPf9, USPf40, USP Elite 9, Mk23, USP9 Match, USP Expert 40, USP 9SD and a couple of S&Ws: 60, 640 and the Desert Eagle in .357.

I asked and was allowed to pull the lanyard on a 155mm and also fired a 175mm. Firing the 175mm was and is not for the faint of heart. This is or could be the reason I say pardon me during most conversations.

Can't even begin to list them all. I worked for the only Class III gunsmith in the area during my college years, and one of my primary duties was testing every gun he'd worked on. It was sometimes tedious, though. He once took a contract to refinish 600 police sidearms - all Ballester-Molinas. Every one of those had to run two full mags of hardball.

Wow. Some of you people have way better memories than I do. Many of the guns I shot as a youth I either don't remember what they were or never knew even at the time. Nothing as truly awe-inspiring as a 5", that's for sure. Just a moderate variety of revolvers, semis, rifles and shotguns owned by myself or acquaintances. Wife and I just recently bought memberships to a local indoor range, and they have a reported 250 rental guns available. I plan to seriously expand the unknown/unremembered list.

Let's see, first rifle was in 1958, a Remington Model 510P, I still have it. Between 1958 and now I have shot a few more guns, including a few cool things during 10 years USMC. Last week I shot an AR in 223 and a 223 Remington 700 as well as a 308 Remington 700. That's it. :)

I seriously do not have a clue and am not about to try and compile a list. Over 50 years and owned a gun shop, I guess a few. To those who can actually compile a list? More power to you.

Ron
