It figures.
I'm all set to go tomorrow to drop money on a S&W 617, but I have to check out the other local, logical place to see if they have anything better for my purposes, or perhaps a better price.
Why do I do this? Why don't I learn? This is even worse than those god-awful pawnshops.
Of course, the place today has a 617 -- for $55 more, and in worse shape. While I'm staring down the sights, I notice, out there past the front sight, the familiar shape of an AK-74 flash hider.
Now, I really don't need another AK-74. I should be happy with the one that I have, and accept the fact that I'm going to have to drop more money on it to make it into what I want it to be. Right?
And then I notice its color. Black, like moly over park.
It's an Arsenal.
Gaaaaaaah ...
But I need this danged .22!
Closer I creep towards it, lounging against the wall, leaning against a wooden peg, wearing a slinky black polymer outfit, like the Bulgarian money-sucking trollop that I know these rifles to be.
The shop owner notices my interest.
"It just came in a few days ago."
I try to act nonchalant. Sweat is breaking out on my forehead. I pick up the tag, flip it over, and it says:
Arsenal SLR-105 A1 R
5.45x39
4 magazines, bayonet
stripper clips, guides
oil bottle, sling
cleaning kit
$600
For those not in the know, this is discontinued and shows up on GB for outrageous asking prices, and includes an optical side rail for extra reach beyond the iron. About the only thing that I don't think that it does have is an accessory attachment point on the gas block, but that's forgivable.
*SIGH*
Rice and beans for another month ...
