gunshow find Marlin 1894 takedown

sombody with plenty of time and ambition must of got bored.found this 1894 Marlin 44 mag at the gunshow today traded a Uberti model P for it.the takedown mechanism is simple and tight.I'm assuming they were unhappy with scoped accuracy, as it was wearing a weaver rail mount.The wood is in good shape(might be new) bluing is thin and I'll probably have it refinished.according to SN it was made in 1974.I will have a range report ASAP anyway here are some pics.

That is pretty cool, sure would like to see how they did the take down, does the mag tube slide in and out?

yes, its got a detent ball that you push and the mag tube slides foward here it is locked.

Thats nice! I was looking at Wild West Guns and just to make a rifle take down, it would be $550.00 on your rifle.

If you ever pull the magazine tube appart I sure would love to see how they put together that push button.

I was wondering that myself.they built a new longer mag plug that has a hole in it for the spring and detent.drops capacity by two rounds though. also got to shoot it today 25 yard indoor range,resting elbow on booth,

240gr that chrono 900 fps from a 6 1/2" handgun. I'd guess they're going <1100 from the rifle.I'm not sure I could get the barrel hot.

I get you, I have a similar 'fun load' for mine. I was just trying to read a 25 yard target, which can be a little foolish to try. Looks promising at least, 'specially with the stock sights.

My thoughts exactly I shot two more groups with this load, this was the best looking one, one had 4 touching with an ugly flier and the other was probably just a little bigger and square and not touching. also I was dissappointed with my cast load performance ~3" group with some evidence of yaw.
Guess I'll make Elmer happy and shoot the rest of the 250 Keith SWCs in my 29.

That's a great find, mavracer. I had a non-takedown 44 Mag in the 1970's and reloaded for it. But I found that hotter loads were not more accurate in my '94. Lighter bullets had less recoil, gave better trajectory and were cheaper to shoot.

I've always enjoyed the way the bolt fits the receiver in that Marlin side-eject design.
