Hello,

I got this mount and a Nikon 4x32 scope. Very easy to install or so it seemed, especially as the rings are mounted onto one long dovetailed piece. However once I took it to the range I found I had an issue where I must have "canted" it invisibly because when I sight it at 25 yards it shoots to the left at 50.

Is it crazy to take this style mount to a gunsmith for a professional install? I figure he can lap the rings and also install the scope so then all I need to do is properly sight it In and shoot. Instead of spending all sort of money on torque screwdrivers, lapping materials, several levels and a vise etc. Maybe it'll run me $25 for the job? For a 15 dollar mount and 90 dollar scope and a lot of "peace of mind". Shame that I will be going back to Tech Sights in the next 3-6 months probably for an Appleseed tho.

If the cross-hairs are vertical with the rifle, it wouldn't matter if the base is slightly tilted or not..

If it is truly "sighted in" at 25 yards, it will be truly sighted in at 50 yards except for drop.

Why not sight it in at 50 yards, then shoot it at 25 yards and see what happens.

I will give that a try. I just get impatient because my next range time isn't until mid-September so now I feel like I have an "unsighted" rifle just sitting there gathering dust : )

I didn't get the chance to try that the last time and I certainly should. Especially as any error would have been magnified at 50 yards so my "zero" at 25 could have been slightly off and not really noticed.

I wasn't too worried about it until I saw the thread last night where a gentleman on this forum had the same issue and the other posters told him his scope is likely installed incorrectly causing the shift from 25 to 50 yards.

The only way it could matter is if the reticule is canted when the rifle is held perfectly level.

If it is, it will shoot progressively further away from zero the further away the target is.

But it would take a bunch of cant to make much difference between 25 && 50 yards.
