Why pay $99? I'll sell you an equally impressive piece of paper for $49. Order in the next 15 minutes and I'll double the offer! I'll send you both a gunsmith certificate and certify you as a mall ninja in the state of your choice.

Joking aside, I am not aware of any legal protections afforded a gun smith versus a regular civilian. The only legal protections I know about are the various FFL and firearm manufacturing licenses issued by the federal government, not a university.

Privileges afforded to FFLs are probably the most subject to loss because the government can simply revoke them, no legislation required.

Internet colleges = fake.

These people advertise in SGN. They also do the site "morebans" and I think "homeffl". It's mostly a bunch of fearmongering scare tactics and name calling.

It appears to be a viable "loophole" if the time ever came.

Scot, stop and think. Why does this appear to be a viable "loophole" to you?

In my business we call it "magical thinking". People wish the law was a certain way or magically did not apply to them (e.g. I've had convicted felons tell me that they can own rifles and shotguns, just not handguns. Or, they they can hunt but they cannot go shooting since they are convicted felons).

Take the money and give it to NRA-ILA so you do not have to worry about this.:)

This...

was brought up a couple of weeks ago. It was poo pooed then and shall be poo pooed now.

Start the Poo Pooing!

Food for thought...If guns were banned completely and LE carred "Bobbie" batons how would you get your guns that you don't own to a gunsmith to be repaired after you illegally discharged them and broke one? Another thought...If guns were illegal, would a gunsmith then become just a smith...and what would he then smith upon? And don't say, "Mrs. Smith".

Amen this. If people would spend half as much time trying to prevent "bans" as they do trying to figure out how to get around one "when it comes" they might be able to stop one.

No one has even gotten a nomination yet, much less won an election, or passed any new legislation but it looks like a lot of "us" are already rolling belly up. Why not just march on down and turn in your stuff now and avoid the rush?

IF anit-gunners do read these forums, they must be slobbering at the mouth. They got us beat and the battle hasn't even been joined. Sad really.

BS is BS and this web site is all BS, they are a true scam.
I volunteer as an apprentice coordinator for TAOGART and we receive inquires on this Certificate program several times a week. It as several other sites offer certifications with little or no instruction and are not recognized by any state or federal agency. If I walked into a shop and saw one of those certificates hanging on the wall I would have serious doubts about the smith.

Even if one did get an FFL how would that protect their PERSONAL gun collection anyway? With a gunsmith license, I would think the only guns protected would be other people's logged into the book for repairs.

All that aside my feeling is that this is complete bull crap. OH, but I can become a CERTIFIED reloader and get 50% off reloading supplies-- WOO HOOO, sign me up! Yeah, right.

With an 07 Manufacturers FFL, you can do both ammo loading and firearms manufacturing. Also can do gunsmith work and anything else that doesn't require an SOT or DD License. IT is 50 bux cheaper than the 01 FFL too.. I just got my 50 bux back last week, lol.

As for any "Gunsmith" licensing, the only one you must have is the FFL. Anything else is just a scam.. if you are a real good machinist or a mold/tool die guy, the gunsmith stuff is smokin easy. I you cant drill a hole in a piece of wood with out problems, Gunsmith work isnt for you.

CDignition
It takes more then being a machinist to be a gunsmith you need to be mechanically inclined, you need to understand how and why guns work and don't work, you need to be a wood worker, a book keeper and hopefully a good businessman.
CDignition I looked at your site it appears you do very nice work so I think you understand what I'm saying.

So, ScotZ, are you affilliated with this website or do you just not know how to find your old post:

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=359813

You asked about this same "school" less than a month ago. It seems that you are either promoting the site by pretending to ask about it or you are a perfect candidate for all their programs.

WOW! My apologies to everyone. I must be getting old. I am not on here often and come to this site when I see something that I question. Thank you all for your input. I think I better make an appoinment with a Psychiatrist as I must be losing my mind. I simply dont remember making that post. Thanks again for your patiance.

I'm doing a mail order gunsmithing class. It does NOT make you a real gunsmith. All it really does is teach you how to diagnose problems and do basic repairs, which is what I wanted to learn. I would call it hobbyist gunsmithing, not professional gunsmithing. The course cost $500 and they give you two years to finish it. I don't put much stock in the value of their certificate though.

I understand the error of my ways and will shoot an 500 extra rounds through my SIG as penance. WOW :what: I have to come around here more often. THR may be the last bastian of sanity left in this crazy world:D
