I am entertaining the idea of having some work done on my Cimarron model P. Action job, upgrade sights, check headspace/endshake, basic stuff.

I'm in central N. Alabama and it would be great if I could find someone close by, but I am not averse to shipping.

I sent an email to Steve Young (stevesgunz.com) but have not received a response. Is he still doing public smithing work?

I would like to avoid sending it to Cimarron (Hill Country Precision Gunsmithing) due to the last 4 month debacle I experienced with them.

Any other folks you guys/gals would recommend? I would not be competing with this gun, it would just be for my own enjoyment.

I am the owner of HCP Gunsmithing and I would like to apologize for any inconvenience you may have been caused by our service. I also apologize for not finding this thread earlier to make it right.

I would love to know what caused the 4 month delay in repairing your firearm. We are always trying to improve our service and I would hate to have anything like that happen again. I know it's been awhile, but I would also like to offer you a free action job on the Cimarron revolver of your choice, including shipping. This offer will not expire. Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested.

Again, please let me know what happened to delay your firearm repair and we sincerely apologize.

Hi Ryan,

I've talked to you before. Actually emailed you about this very problem around the time of the original post. I think in the email I described the main problem I was having, which was the trigger pull being extremely light (1 lb.) with lots of creep. Like there was no spring tension and the hammer/sear interface angles had worn. You were very helpful, and recommended sending the gun in.

Since then, the Model P was STOLEN from my house along with 11 other favorite guns (some really nice old three screw Rugers, and custom 1911s).

However, the Model P just so happened to be the ONLY gun they have recovered. There was a gun store burglary a month later, and they got the perps on video and arrested them within a day, and low and behold my Cimarron was UNDER THE FRONT BUMPER of one of the guys' car. It was a little banged up, and had some surface rust forming on the banged up spots, but other than that it still shoots pretty well.

Here is a post I made about the reason, at least as was explained to me, behind the 4 month delay to turn the barrel. I think it was just a "perfect storm" of unfortunate events:

I will send you another email later today to discuss further.

Hammerdown77,

Thanks for giving me the chance to make my mistake right and taking me up on my offer. I'm looking forward to doing more business with you.

Well that certainly was a generous offer from HCP Gunsmithing. Looks like Ryan is trying to run the company the right way.

My hat is off to you Ryan for stepping up like that to make things right. I am also gland to have you as a member on this forum, as I am trying to decide which sa revolver to buy.

Yes indeed gentleman, my Cimarron will be going to Ryan on Monday! He has gone above and beyond to help me out.

I will not hesitate to recommend Cimarron single-actions to anyone who might ask. I'm currently thinking about picking up another one myself, an "Evil Roy" with the 4.5" barrel in 45 Colt...

And just for reference (and because it's just a cool gun), here's the Model P in question. 45 Colt, of course.

And this was a group shot with my hand loads at 15 yards, before the barrel was turned to correct for windage.

Sounds like the OP got his answer, and help from a good gunsmith who stepped up to make things right!

But, for those who clicked on this thread because, they too, wanted to know about gunsmithing for single action army models....

This guy seems to be a mainstay in the business of tuning SAA models of most varieties, and I like that he sells models that are already tuned, for a great price.

I've got my Model P Jr. at my local smith now, getting him to turn the barrel to adjust point of impact. I went to pick it up the other day and he had it clocked over so far that it didn't even look good. I left it with a request for him to back it off a bit. If he can't get it to my liking, I'm going to send it to Ryan.
