That is a fairly ghetto-tastic little number. For years I have thought them far too ugly and crude, but because of this post, I have seen the light.

I must have one... then I am going to have it nickeled or hard-chromed!

You just about cost me $75 today.

I was down at McBride's in Austin, and they had a nickel plated H&R 622 sitting on the shelf for $75. I looked it over, and it was an older model than mine with the hammer-mounted firing pin and lever instead of button for the cylinder release. But I decided that buying another tacklebox gun didn't really fit into my overall plan for gun minimalism, so I took a pass.

Close call though, and it did look pretty cool with the nickel.

H&R/NEF are an excellent value for the money! I want a NEF in .32 H&R Magnum with a custom 6" barrel! I believe that it would make a wonderful antipersonnel/small game revolver!

Would anyone care to argue or agree with that postulate?

You can get a lot more out of a Ruger SSM if you reload. Buddy of mine gets some really quick velocities, but he's pushing more pressure than I'd wanna push in an H&R. But, for the money, it'd be a really cool gun for a really cool little caliber. I think of the .32 more as a .22 on steroids than a self defense round. I'm not sure what it'd be good for, but out of my bud's Ruger it is very flat shooting and packs more than a .38 special punch. It is also quite an easy gun to carry afield. Much the same could be said for the H&R with a longish barrel and it wouldn't cost you 3+ bills and in energy it'd still be capable of .38 levels.

Now, to stir the pot, Ruger chambers a very tasty 4" windage adjustable version of the SP101 for the .32. You could push hot loads in that little gem, too. But, I'd rather have that particular gun in .357 with a 3" barrel, first.

While that SP101 is quite a stout revolver, the new Charter 2000 that will be making it's debut at the SHOT show this February will: sport a 4" barrel, have adjustable sights, and cost a darned sight less then the Ruger! :neener:

Just having a little fun at your expense.

My 649, excellent condition, was my Dad's gun; it sat oiled in a gun rug for almost 25 years, and he surprised me with it one day when my parents visited. 7.5" barrel, 6 rounds, .22LR and .22WMR cylinders. Double action, looks like a SA. One-piece plowhandle grip over a skinny DA grip frame like the top-break guns had.

I shoot it occasionally, and it handles and shoots very well. It was originally bought as a warm-up gun for shooting black powder revolvers with similar long barrels. I'd shoot it more often, but it's in 99% condition and has lots of sentimental value.

Any apparent blemishes are actually just oil reflecting in the camera. It looks brand new. I'd love to find a top-break H&R. An acquaintance lives in the mountains on 10 acres and his little top-break H&R .22WMR is his daily carry gun for snakes and varmints that bother their egg hens and other barnyard fowl.

Here's my 649 with a SAA 4 5/8" for size/proportion comparison:
