I stopped by one of my favorite dealers this morning, as usual for me on a Saturday (he makes the mistake of always having coffee available and providing free donuts on Saturdays) and found this H&R with an interesting story, at least to me. The original owner bought it at K Mart in the late '60's -the price tag on the box indicates $31.97, and he got one 50 round box of Remington ammo to go with it, then stuffed it in the linen closet and there it stayed till it was found by his family after he passed on. He bought the gun for defense during the riots, and that struck an old memory. People who were not, until then, interested in guns whatsoever, started to buy whatever they could, and I recall neighbors and friends approaching my dad back then as to what they should buy, where to buy it, etc. Dad would of never recommended an H&R, but this little revolver looks as if it is of decent quality and it cost me less than a tank of gas for my pickup so I thought I'd bring it home.

Not a bad gun for the money. I had a friend growing up that owned one, as did his father. Never could recall anything wrong with either aside from a lack of "sexiness" (I had a Ruger Single Six, so I was loaded with charm, heh-heh).

They had a ramshackle old cabin up in Northen California, and used to woods run and fish all the time. Those H&R revolvers more than served their purpose.

Gotta say YES you did good. I have two 622's. Not self defense or target revolvers, but loads of plinking fun. If the ones I see at gun shows are an indication, values are going up.

I like the 999 series myself but it looks neat with the original box and ammo. I passed a similar older H&R in the box at $125 recently. On lower end guns like these you never seem to see the original box or papers. I like the old lion logo.

From a devout H&R fan:

Congratulations. I think that H&R .22 revolvers are the most underestimated, undervalued things around. Enjoy!

PS: Try it out with some Aguila Super Maximums. It's a pretty snappy performer.

PPS: Get ready for someone to tell you that a Ruger or S&W is a better way to go. It's as certain as death and taxes. :neener:

Oh my, an H&R 622 brings back fond and not so fond memories. Many a day spent trolling around the woods with one of these. But one of these also cost me 40% of my hearing and gave me permanent tinnitus at the age of 14.

I'll do it:) Yes a S&W would be nicer but you are not likely to find a Mod 17 or 18 for $125.

Or $98. It appeared unfired, and I'll leave it that way in the safe. If I come across a used one I might buy it as a shooter.
