I have a H&R 949 revolver that started miss firing. Yeah I'm sure most of you already know what this is but I didn't so when I pulled the grips, I wiggled the main spring and the assy fell out.
Plastic end that rides on the hammer broke off. 949 mainspring.jpg

I found one at Numrich's recoil spring of 949.jpg so when it gets here I will put it in. It is the steel one instead of the plastic piece of crap H&R was using when they went out of business. No wonder why.
I think it is aftermarket, not original.

This main spring assy is all metal and the end I think is just a retainer to hold the spring on there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'm supposed to use the original piece in the top photo for on the end of the spring shaft.

Am I correct in thinking the end in the first photo replaces what is on the end of the one I bought from Numrich's?

Update, I put the original end on the new hammer spring assy and put back in the gun. it works fine. The steel square that comes on the replacement is to hold the spring in place. I suppose you could use it if you wanted to but it doesn't fit the recess very well.
I put the gun back together and it works fine.
