I am looking at a used Buffalo Classic 45-70 with a serial number of HU 358040. Is there a way of determining the age of this rifle. I would prefer it be a few years old and avoid being built under the direction of Remington.
It has a "P" in a circle after the words "45-70 GOVT" on the barrel. I have heard the ones from Remington have an "REP" in an oval on the barrel.
I am about to make a trade and would really like to know more about what I am buying.

I added more information and a photo to see if I could get some help in determining the age of this Buffalo Classic.
