Tell me about what I just got cheap this weekend as a project:

Marked H&R Expert on the barrel, SN is 54270X,

Bore looks like new, finish is pretty good except for some rubbing on the end of the barrel from a holster i believe, and some scratches on the cylinder. Marked for 22 Long Rifle Ctg on the barrel as well. It is a break top 9 shot 10" barrel.

The pistol doesn't fire, I still need to disassemble and look at the problem.

Is it safe to fire newer high velocity 22 in?

Any idea on ballpark value, i've looked around and haven't found much.....

In working condition, about $200-$300 U.S.
Right place and right time it might bring more as the market fluctuates on these old top breaks.

CCI still produces .22 Long ammunition that will be safe to shoot in that gun.
You can also use CCI Long CB caps.

Try here for parts:

The gun digest book on Gunsmithing revolvers by J.B. Wood covers the H&R revolvers pretty good though the photo's suck and you will be winging it with some areas of the diassembly and repair. HTH
