I just want to ask a more specific question related to another thread. Are all the the H&R handi rifles takedown? If so are they easy to take down? Also, would it be easy to put iron sights on the .308? I noticed that the 30/30, 45/70, and the 50 S&W have iron sights but the others don't.
Thanks.

I have a Handi Rifle in 45-70. To take it down all I have to do is remove 1 screw from the forearm with a Philips screwdriver, then open the action to separate the barrel. It only takes about 15 seconds to do.

Any competent gunsmith should be able to drill and tap to mount iron sights.

I turned a thumbsrcew on the lathe for my .223 featherweight model. It goes in a luggage box in my truck, along with tools and other emergency supplies.

Somewhere on here a poster had a photo of a thumbscrew he bought at a tool store for his handi rifle. I have done a search for it a couple of times and have not been able to find it. IIRC he said he paid around $7 for it.

They do 'take down'.
As for putting iron sights on it, well, for a smith or a well knowledged kitchen table tinkerer iron sights on one of those aren't too bad.

Some fixtures and silver soldier paste and your good, then comes the re-bluing part, you'll have to blue it again, which if you really, really search hard on the net, you can find several outfits that will do it for chicken feed.

We did an old scatter gun this past winter, you could see the heat marks where it had been soldiered, but the marking was not all that bad, the customer elected to forgo the bluing cost, we rubbed some oxpho-blue cold bluing on it and off he went, it looked....good!
