I know.. I know, yet another "help me choose" post on THR .. I never thought it would be me posting one of these .. *sigh*

Well, heres the thing though.. I'm not asking you all on THR due to any lack of knowledge. I'm asking you because I'm buying on a very low budget, and this will be the last gun for awhile. These three handguns are obviously all extremely varied in design and purpose. It's not a matter of what feels right, or what their purpose will be. I want them all equally, and I'm going to sell a Taurus 9mm to get one. So THR, help me pick one :D

Ruger New Model Blackhawk Convertible 45LC/45ACP 5.5"
Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm
Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 45ACP ( b.t.w. I'd prefer an Operator by far, but I can't afford it )

ruger blackhawk . You already have a good carry gun so might as well be a nice fun/hunting pistola and nothing says fun like a single action revolver.

Blackhawk: durable as heck, not everyone on your block has one, can be used for hunting, and not the worst self-defense gun.

I like 1911s, but every swingin' Tom has one, and every range has one for rent. If you're out to have fun, get something unusual.

Nothing against the PX4, seems a neat design, but I'd go for classic over novel.

Everyone needs a 1911

+1 While I like the Glocks for general duty, I'm never getting rid of my 1911. It just feels so right to have one in your hand. Mine is a Springfield stainless. Very reliable, no problems. I haven't found a reason to change anything on it. Pretty basic but a lot of fun to shoot and certainly a fine self defense arm.

For the price of the Storm, you can get a Hi-Point carbine, ATI stock, scope or reflex sight, and have enough left over to either buy a used Ruger or a ton of 9mm ammo for the carbine. The Hi-Point/ATI is, in my opinion, better looking, and according to the articles I've read, more accurate than the Storm. I know I'm impressed with mine, and it's the most fun to shoot gun I've had in years...

Clipper , I'm talking about the Px4 storm, which is the pistol. Not the Cx4 which is the carbine. Thanks for your input anyway though :p

Keep the votes coming folks, you WILL be choosing my next handgun!

...Sorry, Hex. My mistake. The Ruger is a tremendous gun for the money, but if you aren't going hunting with it, I'd go with the 9mm to keep ammo costs down. 9mm WWB is cheaper than good .22WMR.

1911. The other guns are nice choices, too. But i've never heard someone say they regretted buying a good basic 1911.

You, sir, are evil. Hardest poll ever. I like all three, see merits to all three....I'm a revo lover, but everyone needs a 1911, but the only polymer-frame that I'd buy would be the Px4 for range purposes............

great, there goes the rest of my afternoon, deciding how to vote....

I very much wanted to vote for the blackhawk, but have you ever tried to carry a blackhawk IWB???? So, the Springfield if this is all the choice I have. Of course, something like a Taurus Titanium Tracker in .357 or .41 mag would be better for me if it were a choice. I am a reloader, so I don't worry about insignificant things like the cost of store bought ammo.

If I didn't wanna carry it concealed, the Blackhawk is the one, but for multiple purposes it's a single purpose (outdoors, fun shooting, and hunting) gun. The 1911 can be loaded hot for, while not really a hunting caliber, decent power and it is easy to carry. It won't be even close to as accurate as the Blackhawk, either.

I voted for the PX4, I shot a Sprinfield Mil-Spec once while shoping for a 1911 and it was every bit a jam-o-matic. That damn thing couldnt empty one mag without a jam. I am not a fan of Ruger the last one I bought was well before Bill Ruger turned anti, but if I were to select from that list the Bereta is the only one I would spend a dime on. Just my $0.02.

I would have gone w/ the Mil Spec but I went w/ the 9 mil because since you're on a budget, you'll probably budget your shooting too so...since 9mm is relatively inexpensive to shoot, buy that :D

Blackhawk here, especially if you want to do any handloading. The BH's I've played with were nice, and 45LC is one of the easiest cartridges I know of to handload. I'll admit the .45LC/ACP isn't the first blackhawk I'd get but it makes sense since you already have another .45 pistol.

"Last gun for a while" and "low budget" just SCREAM--stick with 9mm. Get the Px4.

While the other stuff is fun, there's no doubting that, you already have a hefty amount of 9mm (you do, right?), so ammo won't be an issue, and it is a slick gun that has more than just a range purpose. And I've seen some of those new for less than the others.

Man, it took me a while to decide that.

Though, in my personal choice, I'm probably going to go with some form of .45. Why? Because I am not "far along enough in age" to have any serious bills yet, so I figure I may as well blast my money on something totally awesome while I can. :p

You've already got the autopistol sector covered, and you've got a nice carry gun. Get something you don't have... a big-bore revolver.

I may actually wind up with a bigger bore revolver than I expected. I ran into a guy at a gun store and just started up conversation as I normally do with firearm aficionados. When he saw me eyeballing the blackhawks, he mentioned he had a 44mag super blackhawk that he might be willing to sell, so that he might buy something even bigger.. he was checking out the Smith .500s. I gave him my number, so he may or may not call , but he price he mentioned was definately a good one .. so we'll see what happens with that.

So as far as the poll goes, I thank everyone who voted for their time and opinions. While all of these guns were good choices I think, as it turns out I may not buy any of them. As far as the blackhawk goes, if the guy I mentioned above ever calls I'd say it's likely I'll be buying his. For the PX4 , well I'd still certainly like one .. but I think I'll put it off in favor of something else. Which brings me to the 1911. As much as I want a 1911, and the price is closest to what I can currently afford on the springfield mil-spec ... I think I'm going to try and be happy with what I've got for awile and hold off completely... but, not because I'm giving up on a new gun , rather because I'm going to strive for something even better. My current plan (super redhawk aside) , is to start saving my pennies and nickels and such and wait off for awhile so that I might buy either a 5" Stainless S&W 1911 .. the one with the crimson trace grips factory installed, or a springfield operator.

I've owned a bunch of Blackhawks and a couple of Superblackhawks over the years. I love the .45Colt but If You can pickup a SuperBlackhawk for a little more it's a much slicker gun.......Just my opinion, Essex
