This is a local online add posted today. I have to wonder how many takers he had. :uhoh:

“.38 special model 36. Great working condition, has a few blemishes, wood handle. Great concealed carry pistol. I'm asking $800/obo”

Bad but i have seen a lot worse. Saw an ATI/Sig pot metal 1911 22lr that had the slide and frame stripped of the original finish. He claimed it was stainless. I told him i was sure they did not make a stainless version.

His reply was he bought it from a cop who had it special ordered

Yes just a bit overpriced for the condition it's in. Maybe if it were LNIB with the original paperwork, etc., then I could see that as an asking price. But given the gun's current state of affairs the seller is definitely is a bit off the mark on this one.

The scary part is that there are people who will pay that, or near that price. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get $600 if the right person comes along.

Since the panic buying on guns started a few years back, seems anything resembling a firearm has come outta the closet and been advertised for an outrageous price. What was P.T. Barnum said about every minute? I see those outrageous prices on POS firearms the same as I see those e-mail scams claiming your long lost uncle from Nairobi just passed and left you 5 million dollars. While most folks won't bite, every once in a while someone comes along that does.

Hey, he can ask whatever he wants.

The current asking price on my house, which I like and currently plan to live in for many more years, is one billion dollars. If someone wants to roll up with that kind of money, I'll take it.

Sold...when can you be out?

It's does say OBO!......

The ad does say OBO. :D
You can explain to the seller how to verify a value or check prices.
It's true that many gun owners or those with little/no background in the shooting sports/gun industry think they can sell guns at over-inflated prices.

In the early 2000s, I went by a local car dealership who had a huge inventory of public service & fleet vehicles that they wanted to sell out.
Make any offer! was the ad.
The cars & SUVs were all about 2/3 years old and in great condition.
I offered a sales clerk a $1000.00 for a GM police model Impala. He balked & I said a $1000.00 is a offer! :D
He failed to see the humor.

Hey, when you price something you can always come down, but you can't go up. Haven't any of you ever dealt in horses? ;)

But he brought a "certified" check for two billion and wants the change.

interesting
I just bought a 99% flat latch M36 in the original box for $475.
The guy has high hopes

It's obvious that he either needs $800 for something and has little/nothing else of monetary value (most likely regular scenario) or... SWMBO said that since he bought another new gun, one of the old ones had to be put up for sale. Not his fault if nobody wants to buy it... Darn, guess he'll be stuck with BOTH guns now. (Most like THR world scenario.) LOL

His wife probably want him to sell it. So he listed it sooo high that it won't move. "Baby, no one wants it."

InkEd theorized,

Sure fits the observed facts. I gotta remember that the next time I get married. :what:
